Poutine?

Is there anyplace locally that serves this Canadian delicacy? I've always wanted to try it.

Mike, a heart attack on a plate it is! I honestly don't think you'll find it anywhere south of French Canadian neighborhoods in Vermont and New Hampshire, though.

However, you could make your own! You'd be hard-pressed to get cheese curds in Louisville, but you could come up with a pretty fair approximation by bringing home a super-size order of french fries from Wendy's or Mickey D's, put them in a big bowl and top with dollops of cottage cheese and hot, thick brown beef gravy. Yummo ...

Here's a random recipe from a blog that looks authentic ...

You could just get one of those KFC bowls or as I call them American Poutine.

I've seen cheese curds at the farm store at Huber's Winery.

It's not local, but The Gage on South Michigan Ave. in Chicago does a very tasty poutine.

When I go to Canada, this is the first thing I get. Everyplace has it, including McDonald's.

Don't know nothing about poutine, but Culvers has cheese curds.

I was dying for some last week at North End. So I asked for an order of fries and threw a handful of white chedder on top. Then a little sausage gravy to melt all the cheese, but not so much as to get my fries all soggy. Everyone went 'eeewwwww, what IS that? Can I have some?" Mike and I made so many orders of that stuff up north last summer.....it may be the perfect hangover food. Come in, I'll cure your need! (I'm out of there by 2pm though)

You can get poutine in Hollywood, FL--all those Canadian snowbirds need their junk food...Usually just during the winter months, though. Not enough people looking for it during summer.

You could get VEGAN as well as vegetarian poutine in Montreal.

Vegetarian would be easy, just use a mushroom gravy. making a decent vegan one with a faux cheese? that's a tall order.

Good point, MIke. Brown mushroom gravy would make a fine poutine. Something seems vaguely oxymoronic about the concept "Vegan Poutine," though! :D

Well Chicago has a Fast Food Vegan restaurant. I ate til I was nearly sick, which with all the fried stuff didnt take much. It was nice to eat fast food again though.
