groceries open?

by Leah S » Tue Sep 16, 2008 1:06 pm

I keep hearing that there's a list of open grocery stores on LouisvilleKy.gov but for the life of me I can't find it on the Metro's site. I generally have a lot of trouble finding any thing on the Metro's site . . . Someone tell me where to look, please!

Leah, to link was at the bottom of the storm damage page. To make it easier here's the link: Kroger Update note, it only lists Kroger stores. Hope it helps.

Kroger on Goss, the Valumarket at MidCity is open, apparently all the VMs are from what I read. Haven't made it much outside the neighborhood to see what else is open though.

From an article on the courier site:
The following are open with limited assortment and temporary power:

2219 Holiday Manor
2200 Brownsboro Rd.
2710 W. Broadway
3039 Breckenridge Ln.
3917 S. 7th Street
7509 Terry Rd.
3400 Grantline Rd.
4009 Poplar Level Rd.
5244 Dixie Hwy.

Just posted on the "what's open" thread that this one ("Dirty" Kroger in Clifton) is open but with nothing that requires chilling or freezing ("perishables") available. Only half the lighting is on, there's stuff piled in the aisles, and there didn't appear to be any way to check out but self-service. I think I'll wait a little longer before I stock up.

I know it's a ways for you, but the Meijer at Tinseltown (Gene Snyder at Westport) has been open the whole time. Other than Ice - which seems to be missing everywhere-their selection is excellent. And it's a straight shot out on 71.

You talkin' to me? ;)

Thanks, Deb, but no worries ... we're stocked on veggies from the produce markets (including the tiny one at Frankfort and Peterson where Mary runs up every Monday and Friday morning as well as the biggies), and we got our frozen meats and poultry over to a friend's house on the other side of Peterson where they didn't lose power. With our power and light back, we're good to go, and made it through the mess pretty well. In fact, I fashioned an unusually good version of Italian-American "gravy" last night from stuff that we kept back in the always-kept-shut freezer side ... ground pork instead of beef, scented with fresh sage instead of basil.

If you weren't talking to me, never mind! ;)

I was in ValuMarket in Mid City Mall a couple of hours ago. They are open and are fairly well stocked. Meat case seems to be about 80%. I noticed they were missing some things like packaged potato salad etc from the deli case. Lots of people buying 25 pound bags of ice. They finally rolled out one of those big carts piled high with bags of ice.

We buzzed over to Southrn Induana (Veteran's parkway) and found the Sam's club well stocked. I was able to get a 1/2 case of eggs and milk. The wind may have blown thru but it seems the weddings aren't stopping.

Robin,
Actually I was talking to Leah... :D

Glad to know you made it thru relatively easily. We have an extra side by side, along with a large upright freezer. Both were totally filled. So Monday morning we invited neighbors over for dinner and started thawing and cooking off things that were going to thaw too fast. Wouldn't you know it- we got power back mid-afternoon ( we still had a great party!).

I had to throw out everything from my fridge yesterday. Even though Duke got our neighbors across the street back up two days ago, still not a clue when we are getting power back.

For those living in the "OC", the Kroger in LaGrange is up and running (not sure they were ever down).....

I read in a previous post that Doll's did not have any meat to grill. Has anyone been there recently that may know if they have any yet? Also, does anyone know if, gulp, Whole Foods has been affected at all?
