The 2008 Putter Cup Mini-Golf Tournament Gets Kids Involved In Ryder Cup Week
The Cup Experience affiliated event will raise money for Kosair Children's Hospital with a silent auction to Ryder Cup tickets.

Louisville will be abuzz with events-a-plenty that are geared for adults with their wallets out and ready to make a huge economic impact on the Louisville economy. With all the glitz, glamour, and excitement that comes with hosting the world's most famous golf tournament, it's easy for the "future of golf" to get lost in the shuffle.

To help get kids involved in the activities of the week, Boombozz Famous Gourmet Pizza has teamed up with Renaissance Fun Park in Middletown to host the inaugural Putter Cup, a grueling 36-hole mini-golf tournament that will pair parents with their kids to battle for the "Cup".

"There is plenty going on around the city for people to do, but nothing that really puts a club in a kid's hand and gets him in a golf frame of mind," said Tony Palombino, founder of Boombozz Famous Gourmet Pizza. "This event will actually get families involved with golf clubs and balls during a really great week where the entire golf world is focused on our city. We thought it was a natural sort of thing to organize and a fun way for parents and kids to do something together for fun and the benefit of the Kosair Children's Hospital."

The tournament is open to any child aged 7-12 who is paired with an adult 18 or older, preferably a parent. Entry fee per team is $35 and includes 36 holes of mini golf, lunch provided by Boombozz, the official "putter cup" tee shirt, entry into door prize contests, a prize bag that includes merchandise and coupons from sponsors, and the opportunity to participate in a silent auction that includes single-day passes to Ryder Cup activities at Valhalla and dozens of other sponsor-donated merchandise and services.

All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Kosair Children's Hospital.

Players will compete not only against each other, but against 36 challenging mini-golf holes on the premier course in Louisville. Each team will enter the lower of their two individual scores after each hole. After all 72 teams have finished their rounds, scores will be tallied to determine the winner. In the event of a tie, the first team to score a hole in one will be declared the winner of the first ever "Putter Cup" trophy.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13 from 8:30am-1pm and is limited to the first 72 teams to register. Teams can register in advance online at http://www.louisville.com/puttercup
