I will admit that I'm in the minority - those who can't stand White Castles. Tried them in College when you had to drive to Kankakee to get them. Didn't "get" them then, don't get them now.

Was the City of New Orleans already gone when you had to go to Kankakee? Sorry, couldn't help the old Steve Goodman/Arlo Guthrie song lyric reference . . .

So glad 2 c that 77% are LOVIN' the Castle. I may venture out to the one on Westport later on. That does kinda sadden me. I would rather go to downtown St. Matthews. I know Robin likes the other one that ceases to exist over in the Highlands. So sad. So very sad these cease to exist. :(
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

It should be noted, though, that the old St. Matthews Castle has been replaced by a GREAT local bank, Eclipse, and they have a little shrine of WC memorabilia in the lobby of their fine new building.

(Disclaimer: We have no stake in the bank, but were so pleased with their service and their approach to banking and their friendly staff that we became early customers and now have about six personal and business accounts there.)

What's the name of the short documentary film about the old White Castle that was at Eastern Parkway and Bardstown Road? I forget the name, but it's hilarious, and if you get a chance you should see it.

That would've been "My Porcelain Past," by Ron Schildkneckt. I'd love to see that again, too.

I'd imagine the library still has it, though only on VHS.

Speaking of "offlines," if we could come up with a DVD, considering the interest in this thread, I'll bet we could arrange for a big gathering to view one. Maybe a return to BBC Tap Room in Clay Street Live? Catered by the nearby WC? :D

I just got a copy (DVD) at Charmichael's a week or so ago. It's good fun and nostalgia. My mother-in-law was born on that site many, many years ago, before it was the much-missed WC. Why have the best locations - Eastern Parkway and Bardstown and the St. Matthews ones- close, alas?

Not picking on you, Doogy, but that looks like a copyright violation, and if I were Mr. Schildknecht, I'd be talking to the folks at YouTube.

I love this idea.... There are so many food-centered flicks.... Big Night, Babettes' Feast, Tom Jones, Chocolat, Ratatouille... um Lady and the Tramp for the wonderful spaghetti-eating scene, Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Europe, Like Water for Chocolate, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle (never seen that one, but want to), etc.

Others with playing-with-your-food scenes, War of the Roses, Animal House....

If it would cause a problem here, just delete my post about the youtube vid. Won't hurt my feelings.

"Dinner Rush" may be the best of them all for portraying kitchen life, although the folks who put together "Ratatouille" did an amazing job of that.

Others with playing-with-your-food scenes, War of the Roses, Animal House....

The dinner scene in "Tom Jones"!
