Growler Fill up??

by Matt B » Sat Sep 06, 2008 9:35 am

I know liquor barn will fill up a growler but was looking for other places. Do all the micro places (BBC, Cumberland, Brownings, NABC) fill up growlers? What other places in Louisville will fill them up?

Brownings and NABC do as well.
(Brownings hands down has the nicest and coolest looking growlers I've seen, big metal handles... they look straight out of the dark ages.)

As far as retail draft growler refills, Bombay (at the corner of Bonnycastle and Bardstown) fills growlers.

I believe all the Louisville area breweries fill growlers (BBC, BBC, Cumberland, Browning's and NABC). Note that Bombay formerly had insanely low prices for a growler fill-up, although they had inched upwards last time I stopped in.

Unfortunately, Indiana law does not allow a package store to do growler fills, otherwise I would have a nice lineup of taps. So if you are looking beyond any of the local brews, you have to look at the Liquor Barns (whose taps scare the heck out of me with their cleanliness) and several retail locations like Bombay have taps for growler fills

I've wondered why a growler fill up costs more than a 6-pack of the same beer (in BBC's case).

I'm providing the bottle, I'm getting 5 1/3 beers (64 oz), and I'm getting charged more. What's the deal?

cumberland had 8.00 growlers last time i was there
liquor barns have had 6.00-10.00 growlers in the past
brownsboro road party mart always has a few kegs and you can sample whatever they have for 25 cents to see if you like it or not.
bombay is where its at though. 4.99 bbc nut brown or blue moon seasonal last time i was there. they also usually have the bbc bourbon barrel stout ($8 i think) and one other random. last time was bbc alt but it may've changed recently.

growlers are awesome. i know browning's sells growlers too.

I really got mine to get beers that you may not be able to get in bottles. Went up to Cumberland Saturday and got their Belgian Dubbel and really enjoyed it. With 2 kids under 3 I rarely get to go to places like NABC or Cumberland so for me its a good way to "get it to go"

DCE offers six taps for growler fillips. Price depends on the beer, but we charge the price of three pints and give you four. Current tap list is:

Falls City
Goose Island Sofie
Lindeman's Framboise
Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA
Three Floyd's Alpha King
Bell's Oberon

Bumping rather than creating a new thread.

Trying to hunt down somewhere to fill a growler on my way out of town, leaving from U of L area headed east...Anywhere other than downtown (BBC, DCE, Brownings) highlands (value market, cumberland, etc) or the burbs fill growlers? Was thinking of maybe Zanzabar, Nachbar, etc? Will stop at the Liquor Barn off 64 if I need to but would rather patronize a local establishment.

Boombozz and Westport Whisky and Wine in Westport Village do growler fills.
