Romantic Places to dine

by Jay L. » Thu Sep 04, 2008 1:37 pm

Hi there. I am looking for some romantic dinner spots to take my wife to. Preferably not too pricey. What are some of your favorites?

Oh, I see your pulling out all the stops to impress your wife you just don't want it to cost much! Brilliant!

Treat her to something really nice like Le Relias, drop $125 or so and she won't bug or nag you for like two years when your watching sports or want to go out with the guys. You can spend $50 at some non memorable spot and you will get nothing. Spend the extra $75 and it will be worth 2yrs of peace!

I know it's a chain, but I've never had a bad meal at Ruth's Chris and the view from atop the Kaden tower is awesome. After dinner, you can take your special lady outside and stroll under the stars as you gaze lovingly into each others eyes.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I think Uptown Cafe can be a romantic place to go on a budget. I enjoy requesting a booth in the back room, but it's also nice in the evening to sit at a table by the windows along Bardstown Road. The food is consistently good. It's not Le Relais, but you can get an excellent meal for a decent price. Oh and the desserts are out of this world.

I vote L&N Wine Bar and Bistro for romance. You can eat chocolate fondue together for dessert, and there's about a bazillion wines by-the-glass to choose from (along with flights).

Romantic and NOT pricey? That's a tougher ticket, Jay, but we ought to be able to help, depending on your interpretation of "pricey."

How about Buck's, in the old Mayflower Hotel in Old Louisville on Ormsby near Sixth?

Uptown Cafe, as mentioned, on Bardstown?

Or L&N Wine Bar at the foot of Brownsboro Road at Story, really nice place and you can ask for their "Recession menu" for low-priced dinners, and fancy wines by the two-ounce tasting glass often for just $3 or so.

Melillo's on East Market, a different kind of romance, maybe, but a lovable family-Italian place with a fun outdoor dining area if you like that, and very affordable prices.

My wife certainly deserves the best, but $125.00 is a little pricey for my wallet except for the rare special. I am thinking of a quieter dining experience, candlelight or soft lighting, maybe some soft music and of course good food / service.

Buck's will be good, then.

We get a lot of couples out for a romantic evening at Sweet Surrender. It's not dinner, but dessert is far less expensive. Indoor and outdoor seating. And we're open until 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights, 10pm on weeknights.

From a woman's perspective, Volare would not be a bad choice. After a candle lit dinner and a glass of wine at one of their cozy little tables, you can enjoy the silky texture of the signature dessert of Tiramisu with hand crafted sugar ROSES Also, Volare has live jazz during the week, and it can create a sultry atmosphere on a steamy September night (providing that you are talking about this month) that would make a girl swoon without you breaking the bank!

Good luck

Way out of season, of course, but plan now for Valentine's Day at the "Love Castle"

If money is the object then go to one of our city's finer food stores like Lotsa Pasta or Whole Paycheck UM I meant Whole Foods and pack a picnic dinner!

You should be able to find some nice things for two for under $30(Some nice cheese and fruit or really anything) Pack into a nice basket from say TJ Maxx or Tuesday Morning($10 to 15), Buy a couple of nice wine glasses while your there($8). Buy a couple of nice bottles of wine(you can find several for under $20) Don't forget the flowers!(a simple bouquet of anything will do)

Get in the car and drive somewhere like Bernhiem Forest or the Indiana State Forestry in Henryville.(The view from the fire tower is really nice)....

You can't put a price on something like this...It's a cheap way to go, but you get many brownie points for what is perceived to be the extra effort....

Trust me on this.... as a married guy who doesn't get to spend as much time with his wife as he would like to or should be able to......

211, actually, but 210 is close enough to find it. :)

I agree on the romance, and the excellent food. It may be pushing the modest-budget limit our friends are looking for here, though.

Saffron's would be a good choice . . . nice atmosphere and unbeatable service.
