Whoa! Not if you eat any significant amount of sushi! Maybe for a sit-down dinner with a Japanese entree, but this distinction should probably be made clear. Sushi is wonderful (in my opinion), but it mounts up fast, because it's hand-made by skilled experts and priced to match, and it's way easy to end up asking for a dozen items or more.

Typical sushi bill for my wife, son, and myself goes right at $100. Great taste and healthy but unfortunately it's not cheap and as addictive as crack.

My sister and I recently went to Vietnam Kitchen and ordered four apps, two entrees, numerous specialty drinks all under 40$. The avocado milkshake is heaven in a cup.

Whoa! Not if you eat any significant amount of sushi!

Your mileage may vary. I sure can't get away from Sapporo's (or any other quality local) sushi bar for anything remotely close to $20. Nigiri-zushi are around $4 to $5 a pair, and a lot of the specialty rolls are $10 and up.

But yes, if you order from the menu and not sushi a la carte, you can do it. :)

You may also wish to try Seviche on Sundays. With seviches half off and drink specials on margaritas and mojitos you can have a fantastic meal for around $50.

Sake Blue the new place in Fern Creek compares very favorably with Sapporo as far as quality sushi. They have a sushi boat for two for 39.95. It's a TON of sushi, really enough for three easily to share along with some apps. Sake Blue is at a tad lower price point than Sapporo but the environment/quality are the same.

When it comes to Sushi, I'm firmly in the Maido camp. I'm not sure what our last bill there was, but I'd say 45-55 dollars. We've dropped more and we've dropped less, but I think we usually come in around 50 with 2 beers and 2 specialty rolls (usually Roman Holiday and Son of the Jade Dragon, for anyone wondering) and something basic (tuna, snapper, whatever).

8/10 dollars (beer) + 25 dollars (specialty rolls) + 6 dollars (basic roll) = 39-41 dollars + tip. another round of beer or another specialty role adds 8-13 dollars, and the additional tip based on percentage.

I'm interested in trying Oishii, but have not yet.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

I'm glad Robin threw Vietnam Kitchen into the mix. That place has become one of our favorite places to eat. We took my mom and dad to dinner there one night, and they were very impressed! They want to go back really soon.

Do they do "cart service" every day?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

It would be best to check current status with the restaurant, John, but I'm pretty sure they offer dim sum from the menu daily but cart service only on weekends. Or Friday through Sunday ... best to check.

Eeeeh I think that depends heavily on the person. With app, two cokes, and sushi, after tip, we usually make it out at around $60-$65... but we're also usually stuffed and agreeing that we ordered too much. When we go 'reasonable' we've been able to stay under $50. I know, like you said in a later post many of the specialty rolls are $10+, but a number of really good ones are under $10 as well.

And regarding Jade Palace, last time I heard the question asked, about two weeks ago, cart service is still Sat/Sun only.
