Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. D Barry

Great neighborhood bar with great beer. The best part is the great beer is reasonably priced. The price difference when comparing the same beer (size and all) at the Nachbar and, say, one of those Irish bar's on Bardstown Road, is astounding. I'm sure rent, and overhead cost, and name recognition factor in. I'm biased to paying a reasonable price while handing the money over to a neighborhood bar, so I drink at the Nachbar. I highly recommend it.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

My most favorite place to drink. The proprietors, James and Heather are great hosts and the beer selection is indeed wonderful.
I recently got to get tastes of the ultra rare Dogfish Head Paolo Santo Maroni & 120 minute IPA.

yeah nach is by far the awesomest place in town to drink. if you go during happy hour they have tons of 3.50 and 4.00 pints. right now they have a delicious keg of the nitro porter, cumberland's best beer, and its selling for 4 bucks a pint, or 3.50 during happy hour. tons of oktoberfests are about to start hanging out i hear

What's the deal on Friday and Saturday? Just too crowded, or something else?

I'd offer four points of interest:

1. Live music in small location (often, though, during the week too)
2. Crowds in small location
3. Hipster Crowds
4. Cover

Neither 1 or 2 is bad on its own, but the two combined can be a problem.

The hipster crowd issue is a matter of taste. But when it gets real crowded, the hipster scene is alive and well. I tend to avoid crowds - not certain cultural "types" - so I stay away on the weekends.

I've been asked to pay a cover twice there (Saturdays both times). Turned right around. Kind of kills the neighborhood bar idea.

1. there's plenty of space out front and in the back
2. it is crowded as hell on friday and saturday nights.
3. yep.
4. only sometimes when bands play. i've never paid cover for "no reason" like plenty of bardstown road bars have.

apparently they're going to be getting about ninety new beers over the next few months including a ton of awesome high alcohol kegs like dogfishhead world wide stout. they should hold me well until gravity head.

Maybe I'm just old, but is this the demographic with the Fleur de lis tats?
