Had lunch with my girlfriend at Meridian Cafe on Saturday.

I had the shrimp wrap special. I liked that it was served warm (I was expecting chilled for some reason), and the slightly spicy chili sauce was both an interesting addition and a wonderful, complimentary flavor. My girlfriend had the lox plate. The amount of lox offered for the price was wonderful to see. The girlfriend seemed pleased with the meal. My only complaint was in regards to the service. Service seemed slightly disorganized. While the water glasses remained filled, other items (dirty, empty plates on the table for a good amount of time) seemed overlooked. Not poor service, but not attentive service either.

That, though, is only a minor complaint. My favorite part of MC is that the portion sizes are perfect. I hate the corporate approach to dining - more is better. I am always satisfied when I finish eating at MC, but not stuffed to the gills. As we went to Henry's Ark after lunch, the "filled but not stuffed" feeling came in handy when moving about outside in the hot, humid air.

And, relating to a previous conversation, I did not find the acoustics bad at all, although Heather has mentioned otherwise. There are some consequences that come with putting a restaurant in an old house. The end result though is a beautiful layout with well-spaced tables. Although there is alot of "noise," the high ceilings help dissipate that quickly.

Overall, a great meal at a great price. I'm going to give a pass on the service issues and return soon (as I have not had that Apple Pie in some time). I'm all for supporting quirky establishments that excel at what they do. MC has not let me down yet. Adding lemonade to the menu would be a nice addition, you know, if someone with power there is reading this.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

My family and I had a fabulous long weekend of good eating.
Friday night- we had delicious sushi at Springhurst.
Saturday- we went to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen- we love their thai pizza with shrimp and my kids enjoy the chocolate brownies for dessert.
Sunday- after the UofL / UK game we drowned our sorrows in some burritos and guacamole at Santa Fe
Monday- just got back from Red Pepper. It was our first time their and we LOVED it. IMO the best chinese food in the city. My husband had the duck that was cooked with tea, and I had the garlic shrimp, both off the Chinese menu. My kids really liked the lo mein and fried rice.
All in all a delicious weekend :-)

What a great Louisville weekend. Saturday went to Worldfest with friends. Great event. Today did Hike and Bike with the kids.

Cooking dinner tonight with our underused organic farm veggies.

Busy long weekend at home. My lovely bride's birthday on Sunday, so I did smoked salmon on the grill along with grilled green beans with home-grown cherry tomatoes and feta cheese. Then made a big batch of hot sauce from super-chilis, home-grown garlic and carrots; then a big batch of pesto, followed by the bride's baking of scones, and some meatballs (veal, pork and beef) homemade gravy and pasta). And, I mowed about five acres in the middle of all of this. Good, long weekend.

At the pool most the day. Grilled some bison brats with some fresh cabbage and onion. Needless to say, a lot of alcohol was involved.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

We celebrated our 12th Wedding Anniversary at Z's Oysterbar & Steakhouse.

My husband wouldn't let me take pictures like I usually do...even though I had a sweet new lens.

I've ALWAYS enjoyed Z's and we've been there for many special and not-so-special occasions. The food is excellent, the service is attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere is private without being stuffy & quiet. (I have trouble being quiet after a wine flight)

My partner and I went to Westport General Store Saturday night. I had read about and was intrigued by Chef Harold's Cast Iron Chef winning special that night, a blackened strip steak with a brandy cream sauce served on a bed of fresh watermelon wedges with corn, cucumber, apples, zucchini and yellow squash ($20).
Steaks were cooked perfectly to order, and the accompanying melange of fruit and veg provided a great contrast to the strip steak and brandy cream sauce. My partner had a glass of the Shoofly Shiraz ($5.50), which he OOhed and AAhhed over, with his main course. We also shared an order of the fried thick baloney with cheddar on white toast as an appetizer, which curiously came with what was seemingly yellow cheddar and not the menu-described white cheddar. We had the peach cobbler and key lime pie for dessert. Props to the chef for using fresh peaches, but the Key Lime pie fell a little short.
A live bluegrass band was also playing which made the experience fun and overall we both were happy with some very good food and drink.

We had a great long weekend, doing most of the cooking at home. Friday night we had family over. I pounded out some chicken breasts, layered them with fresh spinach, gorgonzola, roasted red pepper, and crumbled bacon, rolled them up with a little drizzle of balsamic on top on smoked them on cedar planks. They were great! My wife fixed some couscous with saffron, zucchini and fresh basil and parsley. It was all very good. Last night we threw together some homemade spaghetti and meatballs which were also pretty good. I have a pretty quick and easy red sauce that I use, but I really want to try a more long-simmered gravy. Anyone got any family recipes they want to share? :D All in all we had a wonderful relaxing weekend with some good food, both at our house and at our in-laws.

We had a pretty busy weekend. On Saturday, my hubby, brother, and I went to Huber's for a short day trip. We stopped at Sportstime Pizza for the first time, and were very impressed, as the pizza was excellent, we'll definitely be back. Sunday, the hubby and I drove to Lexington for the Nine Inch Nails concert, then afterwards, drove around for an hour looking for a place that was open, to get some (really) late dinner. Yesterday, we went to Sitar for lunch, and it was fabulous! I was really hesitant to try it, but I'm glad i did. Everything was sooo good! That was my weekend. Hope everyone had a good one!
