Toasting my bottle of Amber Brew (room temp due to long standing)!

I'm having just a touch of Pappy Van Winkle 15-yr-old, neat.

They had a glazed cinnamon/raison bread that was a real treat warmed up a tad with a good, fresh cup of coffee in the morning. I always thought of it like a panera only with fresh product and non-frozen bread and locally owned to boot.

Maybe Todd should share some of his Pappy since it so hard to find these days :D

The franchise may have had a local owner, but it's Albany-based.

Panera, for what it's worth, does in fact bake its bread fresh daily. They don't advertise that the dough is trucked in from a mass commissary in ... St. Louis? ... but it is fresh-baked. Based on my experiences at Bountiful, which weren't bad, I'd say the analogy is apt.

It's a shame it closed. Each time I go to Panera, it seems to go down in quality. Back down to Shady Lane and Karems for sandwiches on the northeast side of town, oh well, still 2 good options when looking for soup/sandwich combos. I guess Jason's deli is decent option too.

Two *excellent* options, and both locally owned and operated!

I really like the Shady Lane operation. The soups are incredible and the people behind the counter are always nice and welcoming. Karems is a nice change of pace and I gotta get a triangle sandwich every now and then, although that neighborhood reminds me of a movie set or something.
