Omaha, Nebraska: What to eat besides STEAK?

by Ed Vermillion » Fri Aug 22, 2008 11:20 pm

May have to travel to Omaha for a long weekend of conferences (The Co-Dependency of Fire & Water, Ladders: Are they tall enough?) and while steak figures prominently on the menu does anyone have any knowledge of any other good eats in Omaha? Also, if you have a steakhouse shout out, please share it. Thanks.

Having family there, I get to Omaha at least once a year, and always go to the Bohemian Cafe... fabulous german/czech food, you must stop by and try it. Here is their website. http://www.bohemiancafe.net also for a great steakhouse try Gorat's... http://www.goratssteakhouse.com. Hope that helps! :D

I grew up there, but haven't been back in a couple of years. However, The French Cafe, in the Old Market is good. If you want beer, The Upstream Brewing Company has some good beer, and from what I remember, some pretty decent grub as well. The Dundee Dell has great Pub food and one of the most amazing Scotch selections I have ever seen. Plus, they have a great beer list too.
Omaha is quietly one of the best pizza towns I have ever been to as well. Valentino's is Nebraska tradition. Big Fred's, Zio's and La Casa are all high up my list of best pies ever. Have a great trip and report back any findings, as I will be heading that way in a couple of months.

I've been to Lincoln, only flown into Omaha, but agree that Valentino's pizza is wonderful.
Also, they have a local sandwich in Nebraska called a runza - never had one, but they have runza shops all over! They must be good!

There is a Grisanti's Italian Restaurant in Omaha (W. Dodge Street)....yes, THAT Grisanti's....I personally haven't eaten there in several years, but recent reviews on "TripAdvisor.com" have been very good...
