It seems like the restaurant owner, didn't apologize for your negative experience, and why should he? You ran his business down in a public forum, and while you have the freedom to do so, he also has the freedom to defend his establishment. It seems quite irresponsible to go to such great lengths to smear a place, whats the end game here? you get everyone to quit going there, and then they shut down? Maybe it would be nice to remember that these restaurants we so casually attack are owned and ran with people who are putting their heart, soul, and every penny they have into making it happen.

Let's all get together for some Hungarian pear brandy. Surely more productive than postulating about a little spat down in BG. I say we even invite Robert.

My wife's from Bowling Green. We're gonna try The Celler next time we are there and we'll give our "big city" opinion. Frankly it has to be better than the mindless joints that line Scottsville Rd. 8)

Hmm, so some how I am in the wrong? Wonder if a guy came on here and slammed Robin for a negative review? Anyways, I needed a neutral opinion on this. Beleive me, I am a strong supporter of indie restaurants, and I do not want any to fail. But the condscending way this guy talked to me, mocking me, in his first few posts, did not go over well with me. He came off, very "redneck good ole boy." Is this a reflection on BG? I don't think so, but then again, who knows. I love hotbytes and have referred dozens if not hundreds of people to this board. For what it is worth, this guy just sent me a PM apologizing. Robin, feel free to erase this thread. :?

I can imagine me trying it.
I can also imagine Brown-Forman calling security.

Can you give us a heads-up first? We need a pic of you being led away in bracelets for the masthead.

Hi, Michael ...

This thread got so long so fast that you may have missed where I addressed that question in what I hope was a civil and positive response to you on the first page of the topic:

Michael, I think you've had good advice here already, but I'll just add that from my point of view, if I reviewed a place negatively and the owner came on to post a passionate or even angry response, I'd be inclined to just let him do it. The beauty of online forums is that there's room for varying opinions; and one of my many original purposes in setting up this forum was to allow folks (including owners) to respond to my reviews on LouisvilleHotBytes - positively or otherwise.

Let's face it, even if it's a critic's job to post honest commentary, telling a restaurateur that his eatery isn't the best is sort of like telling a mother that she's got an ugly baby. You're almost bound to get an emotional response. Barring libelous or actionable remarks, it's generally kindest and most appropriate to let them have their say.

Robin, feel free to erase this thread. :?

I prefer not to erase discussions from the forum ... generally even the passionate ones have some lasting value. Please don't feel hurt, though ... you asked a provocative question (I mean that in a value-neutral way), and you got a variety of answers ... some kinder than others. I think it's been a fair discussion, though, with some useful points about restaurant criticism, feedback to the same, and civility on Internet forums.

I agree. Who wants to organize an offline to the Cellar in BG? I still think the OP is way too sensitive.
