Dixie Highway Eateries

by Jo Self » Wed Aug 20, 2008 10:50 am

I was wondering if anyone could help shed some light on Dixie Hwy eateries or locations for a luncheon that can handle approximately 100 people. The purpose of the luncheon is for the development of the Dixie Business Association and I thought you all might have some good thoughts.

Thanks in advance...

Dixie Highway is mostly chain and fast food restaurants.

I think your best bet would be the Holiday Inn in Shively at the expressway. They have rooms that can handle that number of people. It's been quite a while since I have been, but they did a good job.

Try Marks BBQ in Valley Station, they have a separate room for parties.

I used to go to a place called "Chengs?" cross from the old Zayres near Flintlock on the east side of Dixie. It was my first introduction to Asian food. Incredible! Probably not about anymore...

I might have guessed you were talking about House of Chen, JP ... sibling under the same ownership as St. Matthews' Oriental House, it was one of the earliest Chinese restaurants in Louisville, and lasted until just a few years ago, when it was replaced by Thai Kitchen, which (alas) did not last long, even though it's good. I'm afraid PRP just wasn't ready for Thai.

Maybe not, though. Flintlock is out by Lower Hunters Trace, isn't it? House of Chen was just a few blocks out from the Watterson.

Flintlock is about 2 miles south of the Watterson. It has been so long since I have been there, "House of Chen" is correct.

This might be a little offbeat, Jo, but I'll bet Mike Linnig's could and would handle a group that size. Certainly outdoors, but probably in the back room indoors as well.

Robin beat me to it, but Mike Linnig's does have space for private 100 people. Last time we were out there I walked around a bit and saw several 'rooms/buildings' for groups and I seem to recall one or two were really big.

Please post what you end up doing as others may run up against the same wall

Thanks again..! Mike Linnig's did come to mind, but I wasn't sure if it was out of the way for this particular gathering. I'll run it by my friend, who's actually putting the function together and will certainly keep you posted on what he ends up doing. I know this is for Sept 10, so I wasn't sure if Linnig's was still open then either. Guess I'll find out! :)

Chen's was not far from Flintlock. I grew up in that area and ate there often. I miss that place so much as it was where I had my first taste of Asian food.
