Does anyone remember.....

....the name of the restaurant located near the corner of Bardstown Rd and Gardiner Lane (at the Watterson X-Way) that was known for its BBQ Ribs....the building was razed several years ago, and I believe the Sullivan's Cullinary School Bakery stands on the site today.....thanks in advance....

I think you're right, Amy, and all the Daryls had a different number (presumably a historic year) attached, like Daryls 1865 or Daryls 1893 ... I can't say I honestly recall ever trying their BBQ - I always figured (maybe unfairly) that it was a basic "upscale casual" chain like Friday's or Fifth Quarter.

I remember it! It was part of a chain. I know there were also locations in Knoxville and Lexington during the 80's. The menu was similar to a TGI Friday's and the restaurant was divided into themed dining spaces. I recall that you could eat inside a double decker bus, a jail cell etc. (I can't recall the rest). I'm trying to Google it. For some reason, I think the name was spelled "Darrell's" but I could be wrong.

Wasn't there a Rib Tavern just south of Buechel by-pass, on Bardstown rd? It is now a dilapidated building that housed a Mexican restaurant........Sancho's??

Wasn't there a Daryls on Hustbourne Lane near Shelbyville Rd in the early 80s? Just past where the Denny's used to be.

As opposed to Rib Cafe in Dupont? They had a dance floor to boot!

Could you be going even farther back in time to the Essex House?

Yeah, I want to think it had a single "R" but I have an old notation that says it had two "R"s.
3110 Bardstown Road, phone was 458-1815. Closed in 2002 some years after the last time we ate there. No slam against them, just too many great places filling up the metro in the golden '90s.

Dave is right. Darryl's was part of Gilbert Robinson Restaurants. GR put all of their $$$ behind growing Houlihan's nationwide and it bankrupted the company. They emerged as Houlihan's Restaurant Group moved from Downtown KC to Leawood Kansas and started focusing on franchising versus company stores. Darryl's was part of an aquisition in the late 80's originally a chain out of North Carolina.
I too worked for GR in the late 80's as a corporate chef for both Houlihan's and Darryl's.
