Gelato Gilberto.

by Doogy R » Sun Aug 10, 2008 9:27 pm

Wow!!! I was just over there and picked up 3 HUGE containers of gelato. I was almost forced to try as many samples as I could partake. Thank you, kind young ladies. I ended up taking home 3 different pints of gelato. I began with an Italian wedding cake gelato followed by a blueberry and creams portion and ended with Viniglia. As I was departing, Justin came down and wished me a fond farewell. I told him I would prop him up a bit on this forum and we bade farewell. Now I am home and partaking of the goodies. Anyone out there jealous? I pose that in the best way possible.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I just got home from work sick as a dog with bronchitis and Justin's sorbetto sounds like just what I need. Better than chicken soup.

Where is this place? I have never found a place in the US that has good Italian gelato... none has enen compared! I would give anything to have a cone of some true Italian Black Cherry gelato!

Gelato Gilberto will be serving an Oktoberfest bier/pretzel chunk gelato during Volksfest.

If you're not out in the East End, Gelato Gilberto is also available at a few urban locations. Caffe Classico has four or five trays in season (that's now), and I'm pretty sure Primo still keeps it on the dessert list. I expect a few other local spots have it too, but others are going to have to help me out here ...

We had a craving for saffron gelato recently and my husband called and spoke with one of the owners. They apparently don't keep it in stock regularly but she had a batch ready for us the next day. Seem like really great people.

When you finally make it over there, please let us know if your opinion has changed. These folks go back to Italy every year during their off season to hone their skills. I finished off a pint of Viniglia this fine evening. Let's just say that my taste buds were in culinary heaven.

I really have been meaning to get out there. One of my favorite places in Tucson is a gelato place called Frost. Can't wait!
