by Deb Hall » Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:00 pm

Folks,

Got this from Chef Ouita Michel at the Holly Hill Inn in Mdway and wanted to share. If you haven't been there you are really missing something - excellent food in a beautiful country Inn setting. (Robin has given it raves in past reviews). We love it - And I'm really disappointed we already have plans for Aug. 16th 'cause theis dinner sound great, and great fun!

From Donna, Chris, Ouita, Steve, Emily and all the rest at Holly Hill:

The high point of summer at Holly Hill Inn begins its ascent the November before. That's when we pull out our calendars to see when the full moon rises in August. And that's how we set the date for our Provencal Harvest Dinner at Happy Jack Pumpkin Farm in Frankfort.

Chef Ouita Michel of Holly Hill Inn and farm owners Richard and Leeann Jones celebrate summer's bounty with their annual Provençal dinner. The hand-lettered blackboard menu at the farm stand is crowded with dishes made from vegetables just harvested in the surrounding fields.

Preparations begin weeks in advance as Leeann calls Ouita with daily crop updates. Iron skillets are lined up and seasoned for their turn on the open fires. And long trestle tables are set up and decked out with checkered cloths and hurricane candles.

The inevitable questions start coming with the reservation requests. "Is the dinner outside? Will there be bugs? Won't it be hot?" Yes, probably, and maybe. But it's all worth it as we share an all-Kentucky feast prepared with love on the very site where the ingredients were grown.

This year's dinner is at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 16, at Happy Jack Pumpkin Farm, 966 Hickman Hill Rd. in Frankfort. We hope you'll join us, whether for the first time or as one of our many returning guests. Cost is $35.00 per person plus tax and gratuity and we ask that reservations be guaranteed with a credit card due to limited facilities at the farm. A cash bar with beer, wine, and spirits will be open throughout the evening.

Please call Donna at 859-846-4732 to make your reservation. In case of severe weather, the dinner will be moved to Holly Hill Inn. Please check our web site, http://www.hollyhillinn.com, for more information.
