CJ's "Dish" raves about Rosticeria Luna

by Robin Garr » Fri Apr 13, 2007 7:25 am

"The Dish" column features another "review" this week, with Sarah penning a glowing, non-anonymous 444-word report on a worthy target, Rosticeria Luna on Preston. It makes me want to head out there right now!

John, respectfully, it isn't really necessary for you to tell us that every time you add a link, and it might start looking just a little bit spammy with repetition.

1. I didn't ask your opinion.

2. Four similar posts in four different threads is a little too much.

The Dish CRACKED

by Bill Veneman » Sat Apr 14, 2007 10:00 am

We decided, on Sarah's rave, to try Luna Rotisserie last evening......not difficult to find, but OH MY GOD......

I was expecting a bit more from the review than I saw. It's a store front hole in the wall, that at least is attempting to be something. Bright colors and well lit, but it was very cramped and very cluttered.

We ordered, and were SORELY disappointed.....my sister and I got the featured dish that Sarah discussed.......it was good, and filling, but not worthy of the raves it had been given. Mom got a Moele Burro.......and it was very full of RICE.......now I know that's an authoitic touch, but it was MOSTLY rice......and the Moele sauce was too sweet.......

My nephews didn't like their burrittos at all, and they went uneaten. And my Aunt's dinner is still cooking....she never got it......and when we went up to complain, we couldn't find anyone to speak enough english to understand.

And the food delivery was HORRIBLE......the brought things out in stages.......two dishes at a time, with about a 10 minute lapse in between.

$$42 was a lot to blow on this misadventure.

I say that this place is worthy of a miss by foodies.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

<table border="0" align="right" width="310"><tr><td><img src="http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/luna.jpg" border="1" align="right"></td></tr></table>Bill, dunno ... too bad none of you got the roast chicken, which is really their core product and, in my opinion, amazingly good. Their Puebla-style tacos are also outstanding.

It's definitely "ethnic" and very much downscale (although clean), as you say, and I'm not sure Sarah's "review" fully communicated that. But I just love the place, and for what it's worth, have always found at least one person behind the counter with good English. Marty also lavished praise on it in a column for LEO back before he went over to the dark side.

Did you happen to notice the name over the door, by the way? I see Sarah referred to it as "Luna's Rosticeria," but I believe that's an error. It is (or used to be) "Rosticeria Luna." (See 2004 photo, right)

A follow-up, Bill ...

Bill Veneman wrote:$42 was a lot to blow on this misadventure.

I don't mean to pick on you here, but I'm just curious: Do I understand correctly that there were at least five of you? You, your sister, your aunt and two nephews? That comes down to about $8 a head, and it's going to be tough to eat for much less than that anywhere.

I do think your sad experience, though, underscores the real problem with the way Gannett has been handling "The Dish" recently: These non-anonymous, non-critical articles shouldn't be taken as reviews, but because of the way they're presented, people use them like reviews and end up being disappointed.

Understand

by Bill Veneman » Sun Apr 15, 2007 8:54 am

And the Gannett issue was my point as well.....The Curious Jumble strikes again.......

And, Robin, no picking taken.....but any amount of money is too much to blow on something like that.....it was not meant as a benchmark, just a statement of fact.....and that didn't take into account the amount we spent at McDonalds afterwards so the kids would have something to eat.

All understood and accepted, Bill. Thanks for not taking offense at my nit-picking. ;)

I really do recommend going back for the roast chicken some time, though!

I tried to stop by and give them a try yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a place to park. The parking lot had cars for sale sitting in it and there wasn't too much room to begin with.

The huaraches description in the CJ sounded great, but I'll have to try again some other time.
