Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, and lots of great Cuban places in Ybor City (Latino neighborhood of Tampa). Also, head up the coast a short way to Tarpon Springs for really nice Greek seafood.

I'm sure there's plenty more, but those are my happy recollections of a decade ago.

I second Bern's. If you go you must experience the Dessert Room upstairs - to die for

Italian - Try Donatello's on Dale Mabry......first class
Continually searching for the best in Louisville....

Salt Rock Grill has a great rep. Ybor City is for young tourists to go clubbing. We are heading back to Tampa next week. Will report back with anything new.

Fred,

We were in the St. Pete area (Indian Rocks Beach) in April and I asked the same questions. Here's the link to the responses I got - and my own two cents:

Enjoy!

Whoa! Thanks for updating my old info, Bill. As I recall it, when we were there in the early '90s, it was definitely the "Spanish" section. Decent Cuban restaurants, too. And darn few tourists, young or old.

The best cuban in Tampa is La Teresita at 3248 W Columbus Drive in Tampa. Very near TPA. They open at 8:00 AM everyday. A great steak to rival Berns can be found at Shula's Steakhouse in the Intercontinental Hotel at 4860 W Kennedy Drive in Tampa. Also very close to TPA.

Take the time to cross the Courtney Campbell Causeway (US 60 West) to US Highway 19. Take 19 north up to Tarpon Springs and enjoy some of the best greek food around. Mykonos is our personal favorite.

Deb: Picking up that Baklava Cheesecake for you at the end of the week!

It's been years, but I fell in love with Shula's in Detroit in the late 90s. Never could choke down the huge one, though, when you get your name on a plaque. 48 ounces, I think?!

You are the man!!!!!!
( Of course I'm guessing one slice blows my fat content for the day, but I'm guessing it'll be well worth it!)
