Great lunch/brunch at Carly Rae's

by Todd Antz » Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:36 pm

I stopped in with my family today at Carly Rae's and had an absolutely fantasic meal. On recommendation from Chef Clancy, I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and it was prepared differently, yet better than any Huevos Rancheros I've ever had. One big tortilla on the bottom, lined with beans, cheese, scrambled eggs, topped with pico de gayo, and a side of home fries topped with sour cream. This was one of the most flavorful combinations I have had in some time, and I was truly impressed by the dish. My wife had the Hot Brown, and did something she rarely does, she ate the entire portion served to her (and complained about happily overeating for the rest of the afternoon). My mother had the Tilapia sandwich with the Sweet potato fries and was equally impressed. The two kids meals (Mac & Cheese and a Grilled Cheese sandwich) were devoured in turn by my daughters.

We had excellent and speedy service. The restaurant has a pleasant decor (I'd hate to be the person who painted all the detail work on the walls) and a nice dining atmosphere. I highly recommend a visit here if you have not made the trip yet.

Kudo's to Dave Clancy and the excellent lunch prepared for us today

Todd, those decorative wall treatments were applied by Martin Alan Hirsch and students of his Faux Finish School in the Highlands, when the place was renovated to be the Chef's Table four years or so ago. Amazing work, isn't it?

You should see MAH's house! He used to contribute here, wonder what happened to him?
