Cake Flour is Open

by David Lange » Wed Jul 16, 2008 9:38 am

The long awaited opening of the organic bakery, Cake Flour was realized yesterday with a soft opening. On stopping by, I was greeted by all kinds of enticing creations. On the counter in glass jars were "flowered" sugar cookies and fantastic marshmallows. In the bakery case were raspberry scones, mini carrot cake cupcakes, mini chocolate "confetti laden" cupcakes, and banana cupcakes. There also were muffins crammed with blueberries and raspberry scones. On the cookie side, there were chocolate chip and double chocolate chip. After taking a box of assorted back to the office, needless to say, I was a very popular person.

Claudia Delatorres told me that she uses organic flour and sugar and as many organic ingredients as possible in her finished goods. Cake Four also serves Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees and espresso based drinks and FairTrade Certified hot teas. It is really a delight for the senses. Cake Flour is really a great addition to the East Market corridor.

Somebody brought a box of assorted goodies by the Pheonix hill farmers market yesterday. I agree, some of the best baked goods Ive had in very long time. Cant wait to get over there and try some more.

This is very exciting. How early are they open. This would be a perfect regular stop during my morning bike to work if they are open early enough!

Ok, these ladies are serious. I stopped in this morning on my bike to work and I am already won over. The selection was mouth-watering and the "coming attractions" guarantee that I will be a long-time customer. I picked up a raspberry scone and a blueberry muffin (I think it was a muffin, forgive me ladies if I mis-name). The scone was probably one of the best I have ever had. Light, fluffy, and moist, with fresh raspberries, it was a little mound of heaven. The blueberry affair was equally delicious with an excellent crisp topping. Both items were absolutely perfect and the fact that they are all made with natural ingredients only makes it all the better.
The store itself is VERY clean and new and has a bright cheery look about it.

To keep me coming back for more, they gave me a list of offerings current and coming soon, among them: Fluffies (homemade chocolate and vanilla marshmallows!), a Cheddar herb scone, Sunshine Cupcakes (Lemoncello cake with lemon buttercream), and Wakeup Quiche (made with fresh KY eggs).

I STRONGLY encourage everyone to give this place a shot. It has instantly become my new morning spot and I can see getting up just a few minutes earlier to enjoy my breakfast there.

FYI: Hours: T-F: 7am-6pm, S,U: 8am-2pm

Oh, and they carry Izze drinks which I also love!

We dropped in this afternoon, snarfed some free bites of brownie, which were amazing, and proceeded to load up a big box with all sorts of cupcakes and brownies and cookies and a scone to bring home. Louisville is blessed with excellent pastry shops, but this one goes in the top tier.

Took the wife back today for a late brunch and sampled a few more goodies: vanilla marshmallow, chocolate cupcake, lemoncello cake, and blueberry scone. The marshmallows was light and fluffy, but VERY sugary (of course!), so go easy if you get one, share. My wife said the chocolate cupcake was exceptionally rich and thusly she ate it rather slowly savoring every bite. My lemoncello cake was light and citrusy with just the right amount of lemon liqueur icing. Finally the blueberry scone did not disappoint! Every bit as good as the raspberry scone the day before!

A+ for Cake Flour two days in a row!

We went this morning and got a box full - gotta check out the competition, you know :D I am very picky these days about my sweets since I bake every day and these folks are SO nice and have really tasty treats. I was very impressed with their commitment to organic ingredients and you can really taste it in the quality of their product. Good stuff! I particularly liked the cherry crumb muffin and the lemoncello and carrot cupcakes.

And there is a buy one cupcake get one free coupon floating about. I got one at Scout's, and there are some at the bakery.

They are on Market, in the block east of Melillos.

The cheddar herb scones are also quite good and I had a cranberry scone today that was marvelous!

If you couldn't tell, I've been going there quite a little bit...

I am also a believer. I went in today with my husband on my lunch break and it was everything and more. We bought several treats and had a little impromptu sampling in the car because we couldnt wait. We had the carrot cake cupcake, the banana cupcake, the lemoncello cupcake, the peach scone, and the raspberry tart. They are truly in the upper tier of bakeries. During the sampling, my husband made fun of me because he said I sounded like Sally Albright in Katz's Deli. I recommend this place to everyone. After eating one of these scones I have to wonder how Starbucks can even dare call the tasteless bricks they have behind the case, scones.

They truly are the best scones I have ever had. I have one for breakfast every day on my way to work (except Monday when they are closed, of course! The peach is divine and made with fresh local peaches!

That raspberry tart is heaven. I had one yesterday and it is perfection. The sweetness is wholly due to the fresh raspberries that adorn the top of tart and is well balanced by the chocolate crust. The custard is a velvety medium that binds all of the flavors together.

I bought a flourless chocolate cake from there that was excellent. Hands down the richest, densest cake I've ever had. Stunning.
Be aware , however, exceptional things have their price. My single layer, flourless cake ,(about as big around as an old 45 RPM record, cost $30.00

Their big grand opening is tomorrow. There will be spinach and feta quiche and fresh peach scones, and they will stay open late for the gallery hop!
