As they say....Breaking News....

by robert szappanos » Sun Jul 13, 2008 11:48 pm

PHILADELPHIA/NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. brewer Anheuser-Busch Cos Inc (BUD.N) agreed to a $50 billion takeover by Belgium-based InBev NV (INTB.BR), a source familiar with the situation said on Sunday, creating the world's largest beer maker.

InBev, the maker of Stella Artois, and Budweiser-brewer Anheuser were not immediately available to comment.

The combined company will be called Anheuser-Busch InBev, said the sources, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity. Anheuser will get seats on the new company's board, the sources said, but it was not immediately clear how many.

All I can say is that America is slowly selling it's soul to foreign countries. One day we will no longer be in ownership of the USA. The rest of the world will be. Mainly Western Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. I hope I die before this takes place.

I wish it was slowly, prepare to see our decline which has already started. That one day you speak of is coming sooner than we all think. It was good while it lasted.

All superpowers fall and so will the United States of America. It saddens me as I type this, but history is undeniable.

Maybe, comrades, this is the chance. With AB controlled by foreign powers, this may be the time for the small independent homebrewers to rise up and take back the tastebuds of the country! Let other countries be known as the mass producers of barley swill and let the little guy fill the void! After all, how many red-blooded, true blue, "these colors don't run" tractor pull attendees will want to drink a cold Bud Light brewed by some foreigner! They will turn to you, the local brewmaster! This is your time to shine!

...sorry, I got carried away....

Love what you professed, but this is much more than that. America is losing its soul. Company by company, dollar by dollar.

perhaps "losing its soul" is a little harsh
more like we're cleaning it up for the 21st century

let all of the mass market corps flee to foreign lands

while we independently minded patriots reintroduce the citizens of this nation to individuality and choice

let us rejoice in our brave new world

New Belgium and Yuengling can take the place of AB

Nothing like a little fear mongering to perk up the isolationist / nationalist in all of us.

AB is hardly the "soul" of the US. In fact, physical manufacture and distribution of goods is part of the old economy. The US leads the world in new economy development and start ups. Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Apple, Dell, Intel, AMD, Cisco, Amazon, eBay, Youtube, IBM, GE and HP to name just a few. These companies will shape the next wave of our economic development.

What you see is our economy shifting focus, not "selling it's soul".

My intent was not to be a fear mongerer. Just open up your history books. No superpower has ever lasted. They all fall and will continue to do so.

Here's the story, straight from their website. It is still good beer, IMHO. I am especially fond of their seasonal brews.

It's better for Budweiser that they were bought out... now you'll be able to drink a Bud everywhere!!!
