by Majid » Sat Jul 12, 2008 1:50 pm

Volare offers half-price bottle wine, seven nights a week for guests seated at the bar or adjacent bar-area tables. Please also join us this Tuesday evening, July 15th, as Louisville's own, Bobby J, will be there for your listening pleasure.

Majid, thanks for this post, which was made with my permission. With half-price NIGHTS becoming popular at many local eateries, it seems to me that half-price EVERY NIGHT kicks it up another notch.

I understand this is only at the bar, but people who wish to dine with their wine may order from the full dinner menu at the bar, correct?

If you'll send me the half price wine list, I'll be happy to post it or a link to this thread.

Thank you Robin. Guests will be able to either choose from our regular menu or the appetizer menu offered at the bar.

Thanks to Majid for hustling this list over to us. Here is the full list of wines available from Volare at half-price seven nights a week at the bar.

Note: Prices shown are the full restaurant price. To get the bar price, split them in half. The Farnese Trebbiano, for instance, drops from $24 to $12 at the bar. The Mount Veeder Napa Cab goes down from $50 to $25. And that sought-after cult name Gaia Chardonnay, usually $350, goes at the bar for $175.

even with the 1/2 off it's a bit hard to justify the 60% and even 70% mark ups on alot of these wines. i understand the rational for the high mark up on beverages in restaurants...but it doesnt make it any less painful to pay...especially when you know what the wholesale prices are! is 60% the typical restuarant mark up now?

Generally speaking, in full service restaurants, for each $ revenue - 35% is the product cost, 35% labor, 20% over-head and 10% profit.......although, margins keep shrinking.
