Restaurants near Henryville, Indiana

by Charles W. » Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:59 pm

We're doing an office retreat at Wooded Glen in Henryville, IN. Any suggestions for a good restaurant for one night out within 10 miles or so. We don't want to come back into Louisville (since that's where we're retreating "from"), but suggestions for a nice place on the Sunny Side would be great.

Travel back in time at Schuler’s.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I second Schuler's. It will be a trip back in time, but very nice people there. They have a wide variety from breakfast to steaks. It's nothing fancy but it's not bad. Other places would be El Nopal or Beijing Grill in Sellersburg. They are right next to each other on 311. Or if you want to venture out a little more, try the Chicken House on 111.

I'd love to try Schuler's, but for these purposes we're looking a bit more upscale for this one meal--more Seviche than Shoney's. We'd like to stay on the north side of the river, but places I have known of/eaten at like New Albany Bistro, Rockwall, and Stratto's are all closed now.

Keep 'em coming.

What about Huber's? Still not upscale, but good food. I don't think your going to find anything upscale over here....I'm thinking.....I'm thinking that it LOL! Beijing Grill is not what I would call upscale, but I did pick up a menu and it looks great! The place is nice. Maybe more of what your looking for.

Another thought, there is the new Bristol on the river, but it's practically Louisville at that point.

Yet another thought...the winery at Huber's is very elegant, not sure the size of your group or what they require, might be something to check into? The last time I was there the food was still down home cooking, but at the winery. But very nice.

If Company's Coming is still around, they may fit the bill. Located on the west side of the square in Scottsburg, they are about 10-15 minutes north of where Wooded Glen is (WG is a customer of mine). Also known as Jeeve's and Company, google and see what you can find. Good food last times we've been. That area though is gonna be a tough bill for much choice. Enjoy the scenic drive up HWY 31 north instead of the lifeless I-65 to Scottsburg and turn right when you come to Hwy 56 (McClain St), go to the square and loop around, they are 4/5 of the way back around (ask WG staff for help getting around). Now if you want to venture way out into the deep corn country, ask about how to get to Commiskey and the 2 lbs. roast beef manhattan, it'll put you to sleep.

Thanks and let us know what you find.

Jeeves & Company looks pretty Good except, now that I look, they may not be open for dinner during the week. I'll follow up.

Shawn,

I think you're the winner. Good pizza and an excellent beer list will be a bigger winner with my crowd than a chain eatery on Lewis and Clark.
