Quills - 2 rumors?

by Robin F. » Tue Jul 08, 2008 5:19 pm

In the past week or so I've heard two rumors about the Quills Coffeehouse on E. Kentucky - 1) They are going to start roasting their own coffee (Sunergos is there current brew) and 2) They are moving, but no location was mentioned.

Does anyone have any more info?

Oops - I meant to type "Sunergos is their current brew" not there, so there. :)

Better be careful or the grammar/spelling police will be after you. Or maybe they are just after Robert Z.

Or switch to FireFox which comes with a built-in spell checker. 8) Then again, there was spelled correctly...

Quills has been my morning coffee spot since they opened. They're great people with great coffee from both Sunergos and Jacksons. Yesterday they had a sign posted saying that they would be vacating their current location - last day is (I think 7/19). Apparently they had an untenable relationship with their landlord. That said, I caught one of the owners yesterday who informed me they are close to finalizing a new location. From what I understood, it will be relatively close to where they are now and they are hoping to be opening early September.

Now I need to figure out my coffee routine for the 6 weeks they're between homes. Anyone know what time DCE opens?

They (DCE) open at 0800 hours Monday thru Friday. 1000 hours on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Per the DCE MySpace page.

I can confirm Ryan's info. I called there to double check the facts before posting about it on Consuming Louisville. I was told that July 19 is the last day at the current location and that while they're working to get a location in the same neighborhood nothing has been locked down yet.

I'm glad to hear that they are moving. It's a really nice place, but it's kind of hidden away in the current location. A more visibile location would not hurt them.

Hey all,
it's true DCE opens at 8am M-F (close at 10pm)
Saturdays we *try* to open at ten and I'm currently looking for another barrista to make that a firm opening.
Wish me luck!

That's terrible about Quills having to move...
I know how much love they put into rehabbing that space and to have to leave it after only one year...
When they do pop back up let's give them some love!

Unfortunatley 8 AM is too late for me. I need a 6:30 opener. Is there anyone between Quills and downtown that satisfies that requirement.

Mrs. Potters Coffee Shop is open where Buzzworks used to be. Not sure what time they open though. Highland Coffee on Bardstown might be the next best choice.

mmm sorry about that 6 am is too early for us... Jackson's Organic opens at 6am I believe over at the corner of Lexington and Payne. It's a drive through in the orange building behind the gas station.

Update: spotted today "Quills coming soon" sign posted on the vacant building next to Flanagan's in the 900 block of Baxter Ave directly across from Molly Malone's. Sorry no details to report as to when and to what extent their offerings will be. In the past I think they served Sunergos coffee, but have heard rumors they may begin their own roasting. This location will be good for a fair amount of foot traffic and a good late night hang out. I'm in the area often so I'll be a regular. :D

Check out Cake Flour on Market between Wenzel and Campbell, they have excellent coffee and open at or around the time slot you mentioned.
