Good salad bar?

by Jenny H » Tue Jul 01, 2008 4:20 pm

Where can I go for a good salad bar in the area? I know Jason's Deli and Ruby Tuesdays has a salad bar. Any others? Why can't we have a salad buffet in town(Souper Salad or Sweet Tomatoes)? I think one would do really well!

I wish we had a Sweet Tomato here...
Whole Foods salad bar is ok till you work there and watch it and the gross people who visit it.
I have seen things go down at the Salad Bar back when I worked Whole Foods that you wouldn't believe. Or maybe you would. I now avoid all grocery store salad bars.

I love Sweet Tomato also, but do have two other suggestions

1. Home Town Buffet. Their true salad bar section is adequate, but we get stuff from the hot areas and dump them on the salads to make interesting combinations!

2. Don't know if it still is in existance, but the Hyatt downtown used to have (in the rotating restaurant) a lunch salad bar that included carving stations, interesting breads/rolls, et al.

I haven't been there in a while but the 5th Quarter used to have a pretty nice one. It actually was the highlight of a visit which is probably the reason I haven't been there in a while.

Jason's Deli on Hurstbourne. I know its a chain but it's by my office and we lunch there about once a week. They profess that all the veggies are organic and it is a salad bar with great variety. Plus at lunch, if you're just having salad or soup and salad you can bypass the order line and head right to the cashier.

I keep hearing they are looking to add a second location - perhaps in the shopping center where Wild Oats used to be? That is second hand info, however.

When we were in there a couple of weeks ago I asked the manager about this. He told me they were going to have two additional locations. One will be in the plaza where Wild Oats used to be in one of the new buildings that are being built. The other new one will be in the plaza that Wal-Mart is in on Hurstbourne in the location were BlockBuster Video used to be.

I also asked him if the local stores were franchise or corporate. There actually franchise, but the franchisee is the owner of the chain's son. So as he put it they are sort of a franchise.

Mark, that's awesome. Now I'll have one close to work and one close to home. Thanks for that info.

Jason's always looks slammed at lunch - can you get in and out in a relatively short time at, say, 12:30 or 1:00?

There's a Fifth Quarter on Durret Lane. You can see it from the Watterson.

Thank you, you have effectively ended my trips to the Whole Foods salad bar! The visuals I have conjured up in my head cannot be undone. It isn't necessarily a loss though because I always spent too much anyway.
