Brown Hotel Hot Brown.

by Doogy R » Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:13 pm

I have some out of town folks in this week and they wanted to sample some local fare. Yesterday we went to Graham's Cafe at the Brown and all dined on the original Hot Brown. It had been a while since I actually had one at the Brown and I had forgotten how truly luscious it is. My 9 year old nephew even went as far as to say that after tasting one that his life is now complete. That was before he had the warmed Derby Pie with vanilla ice cream. Then his life was even more complete. I feel so privileged to live in a city with such a long and varied culinary culture that continues to grow and thrive and even expand what with the infusion of our friends from other nations. My folks will be in town all week and I will surely show them all the best we have to offer.

Something I found out is that you can get a half order of the Hot Brown. That is what my nephew had and it was really more than enough for him. My brother had to finish it off for him.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I've never had a hot brown from the Brown Hotel. One day I'll have to break the diet and get one.

Sounds good. When I meet a certain weight goal, perhaps I'll celebrate there.

I have been on a change in my dietary life for the last 18 months that has seen me lose 40 pounds. I still have 26 to go, but I know I will achieve and maintain my goal. I do hope to meet you one day for a Hot Brown and maybe some others from the forum shall as well. My nephew asked if anyone had replied to my post and I told him about you. He said to keep up the good work. He is a sharp kid for only 9 years old. :)

My nephew really wished some more input would've come from more people but I told him that I am a somewhat controversial entity on the board. When he asked about that I just told him that he has a lot to learn.

I'm just impressed that the 9-year old would try it. My godson is the same age and I believe it would take flying pigs for him to try the Hot Brown. I continue to try to expand his culinary tastes, but it is a long-haul job!

I, too, have never had the original Hot Brown, but would love to try it after I also reach a certain goal. I find if I stay fairly stringent on my new eating regime, I do better than if I splurge. It has to be a big deal in order to take the plunge and this just sounds like the ticket ... in the future!

Congrats to your nephew for trying new things. I'm glad his life is now complete (ah, if it were only that easy!).
