Cake Flour Opening in July

by David R. Pierce » Sat Jun 28, 2008 11:44 am

I noticed what appears to be a new bakery called Cake Flour on E. Market. The location is the front of the old Hausman Jeep dealership on the North side of E. Market. One block past Felice/Mellilos/Bodega.

Anyone have the scoop?

Yes, Cake Flour will be an organic bakery and will also be one of the first of our customers to offer coffees from our newest small batch roaster. To put in a plug for ourselves, we are now roasting organic, fair trade and single origin coffees and we are very proud that Claudia from Cake Flour will be offering them. She has extensive experience in baking and hopes to open within the next week or so.

David,

Do you know what type of baked goods she will be making? I usually bake, rather than buy desserts, but it sounds like high quality product- might be worth a detour on my way home from work....

Thanks,
Deb

More importantly, will they make doughnuts?

Works for Homer Simpson.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I've been watching that spot with great anticipation ever since the signs went up . Very dangerous to have a high quality bakery only a block away....

My thoughts exactly.

If it's good enough for Homer, it's good enough for me!

Drove past Cake Flour today and noticed a couple of people inside-but to our dismay they weren't open for business yet. Talked with the owners and they plan a soft opening Tuesday. Here is a short list of some of the items they'll be offering: cakes, cupcakes, cookies, tarts, brownies, marshmallows, biscotti, vegan pastries, scones, muffins, quiche and organic coffee and teas. Specifically listed on their flyer: 60 proof brownies (made with 60% cacao semisweet chocolate), Fluffies (choc & vanilla marshmallows), Love Bugs (chocolate cake bugs), Sunshine Cupcakes (lemoncello cake with lemon buttercream), Black & White (soft vanilla cookie with chocolate and white icing), Trail Cookies (w/raisin, apricot, cherry & walnut), Spring (pear mousse w/vanilla cake & whipped cream), The Cheddar (cheddar herb scones), Wakeup Quiche (made with fresh Kentucky eggs).

I can't wait to try some of their goods! YUM!

I am out of town and will be for a while, but as soon as I get back it will be one of my first stops. 8) I cant wait, I feel that there is a lack of places that serve great coffee and great pastries. I have found most places focus on one or the other. Does anyone know if they will have WiFi, and there hours?

Wow, I'm really looking forward to trying this place. I made a stop recently at the bodega and was given the heads up about it's conception. There seemed to be much anticipation, which speaks volumes to me coming from that market. I do love a good counter quiche and coffee. Novelty desserts are a ton of fun, too, for gifties.
