Derby City Espresso 4th of July bar-b-q potluck

by Matthew Landan » Wed Jun 25, 2008 1:56 pm

Stop into DCE on the afternoon of the fourth for some free bar-b-q action.
We're going to be celebrating America in style with the new grill out in the back patio.
Denise is bringing her potato salad (as good as any in the world) and we'll be grilling buffalo burgers, hot dogs, veggie dogs, baked potatoes and corn on the cob. Bring a side or something to grill or just bring yourself.
We'll begin the grilling around 1pm and continue til about 6pm when we'll close and take the party over to te waterfront for the Los Lobos, MOFRO, George Clinton & Funkadelic concert.
After the show we'll open the shop again for ice cream and desert and fireworks and nightcaps!
See you here!

How's biz Matthew. I'm glad your surviving, I've been in your place about five times and I'm the only person there, or maybe one other. I hope you have cheap rent and can hang in there. Have things picked up?

Hey Brian thanks for your business, we appreciate it. We're doing just dandy over here at DCE. The rent isn't that cheap but just the same we're doing fine. I won't be a millionaire anytime soon but all the bills are getting paid and we're not going anywhere! We have low costs and no real payroll to speak of. I don't need to personally make a lot of money off the place so it's a very sustainable model.

One of the things I love about DCE is we can be more of a lounge. We don't need to be a cafeteria style coffeehouse nor do we need to have a high volume to stay solvent. We suppliment our daytime coffee biz with evening events and concerts where we can make a lot of moolah in a little time. You should have been in here last monday we had more than 100 folks in here to see a couple of bands Mansions and Roftop Rhapsody. Our last first friday was a blowout with about 150 people in attendance for the Illegal graffiti art show.

So it's all a matter of when you wander in. Could be just you having the place to yourself or it could be that you can't move sideways for the sheer size of the crowd.

If you want to see a bunch of people having fun and packing the place out I think the First Friday in July - the 4th will be a good time. Come on in and have a bite to eat on us!
