Missed one in Indiana

by Napa G » Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:05 pm

Hello people! I am new to this forum and a life long resident of Southern Indiana. As I read the Indiana postings I was surprised that The Fireside Bar and Grill was not mentioned. It has a diverse menu, beautiful well stocked bar(though it allows smoking in bar only), OK wine menu and friendly service.

Hi and welcome! Pardon my south-of-the-river ignorance, but where is Fireside Bar and Grill exactly?

One quick question for you, too ... is your name really "Napa"? We do ask everyone here to use real names, not pseudonyms (although first name, last initial is okay). It looks like we approved your registration without asking you about this, but if you don't mind, let me know your real name (or confirm if your name really is Napa) and we'll get you set up like the rest of our merrie little bande.

Hello Napa, Nice to have you. Robin, Fireside is what used to be Neil's Place. They changed the name to Neil and Patty's Fireside Grill a few years ago and then just dropped it to Fireside. We have been to FS several times, but IMHO it's faaarrrr from diverse. Chicken fingers, tater skins and anything else they can batter and deep fry. Now, I will say they do have a few "fresh" items on their "summer menu", but I think the reason that it is not mentioned on this forum is because in all the years, never once, after having a meal there, has prompted me to sit down and share my experience with anyone. Not that they have bad food, because they don't, it's just not anything special. Neil and Patty are both very nice and so is the staff, but it is what it is.

Here is a link to their menu. It looks fairly extensive to me. Next time I'm up around Hamburg I will drop in and give it a try.

We went there for Father's Day breakfast and had an outstanding meal. They had some of the best potatoes I've ever had in a breakfast dish. I've eaten there several other times, and while I have never been dissapointed, I've never been overwhelmed either, aside from the afore mentioned breakfast.

I checked out the menu and it looks like there are some new items listed. Maybe we will revisit the old Fireside and see what's shakin' over there

Online Menus

Neil contacted me about a month ago and asked me to post their menus http://www.MenusOfLouisville.com:
http://menusoflouisville.com/Documents/fireside.htm
They also have an incredible breakfast menu for what they call "The Word of Mouth Cafe":

Neil said that they were working on a complete website.

protein platter

by Lisa Stephenson » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:46 pm

I tried the protein platter there earlier this month. I was so surprised to see it on the menu since MANY items are fried or involve bread. It was very good. The bison burger meat had a great grilled flavor and was served with cottage cheese. The tomato slices with basil were fresh AND ripe for early June. I was pleased. By the way, the staff did a wonderful job accommodating a large group as it was nearing closing time!

I will have to give them a try.....Actually any burger is OK I just toss the bun or tell them to keep the bun and add a little more lettuce and onions....
