CJ offers thumbs up for Turkey Joe's

by Robin Garr » Sat Jun 21, 2008 7:24 am

Marty gets out to Turkey Joe's on Hurstbourne and offers a full-size 707 word review that credits Chef Chuck Starcher for a menu that goes a bit beyond pub grub. The headline and the positive text could perhaps have supported a 3-star rating, but the CJ gives it a friendly 2 1/2.

Turkey Joe's: more than wings
Pub-grub menu is nicely executed

I dined at Turkey Joe's just last week and would definitely give it more than 2 1/2 stars. I had the Double Dare wings, which were to my pleasure exceedingly hot. BTW, if you go on Monday or Wednesday evenings the wings are 50 cents a piece. I ordered 15 and took home a ton of them. I believe they may be the hottest wings in the Ville. They are surely hotter than the Blazing wings at BW3.

I also had the fried turkey dinner. I couldn't believe all the food I received for my money. Not only do you get the dinner, but 2 sides as well. The portion of fried turkey was large and the mashed potatoes are real. My sides were a well made salad and steamed broccoli. They were both above average. In addition to the waitress coming by several times during the meal, the chef did as well. I asked him where he learned his craft and he told me Sullivan. All in all, it was a tasty and filling meal served by very nice people who genuinely care about their customers.

That's funny Doogy, because one of my thoughts on an area of improvement earlier this year was the lack of any truly hot flavors in Joe's wing arsenal. It sounds like they've taken some steps to correct that. I'll have to head over and check out those double dare wings on Monday.

I've had the turkey dinner as well. A good choice and a good value.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

We just ate there this week. I really liked the Turkey dinner. Huge portions and very tasty. I think my Dad had some of the honey wings and really liked them.

They must have changed the fried turket dinner you all have had recently from what they served earlier this year, the one my wife ordered had two thin pieces that were seriously overcooked. She choose to send it back and got the wings which were nothing great (I had them also). But hey that's us. They had been open for several weeks and I thought that would have been enought time to shake out the bugs (metaphorically), but I was wrong.

The Turkey Joe's guys are good people. I believe one of them used to work at the old Napa Grill, next time you're there...ask for the "roof is on fire" steak and cheese...giant steak sandwich...
