Could there be a better combination of eats from two establishments that sit side by side?? Not to get off topic...but that could be an interesting thread. Can anyone else think of any? Anyway, once every week or so my girl friend and I will get a donut from Nords, for me it's either an apple fritter or a pretzel, for her it's sprinkles with chocolate icing and head next door to enjoy them with what is on most days the best cappuccino in town.

My favorite Saturday mornings are the ones that start with a crunch long john or frech fry from Nords and a large coffee from Sunergos. My favorite doughnuts and coffee right next door to each other... can you ask for anything more?

this made me laugh......not because i disagree....because i now know it is soooo very true.......funny story......

i am a transplant......originally from wayyyyyy down south texas.......i had never heard of Krispy Kremes.....well....when my now husband and i first got together......many years ago.....i went shopping and wanted to buy him a little treat......i had not been here long at all....so to me....a donut....is....errrrr shall i say......a donut WAS ....a donut....so i just bought a dozen of some packaged stuff from Kroger......well when i got home.....he looked at them as if i wanted to poison him.....and promptly said....."no babe, no, no, no..." lol....i couldnt understand the big deal.....until he took me to Krispy Kreme.....WITH THE LIGHT ON!!!......WOW!!!!......they are sooooo good.....but so bad because they melt in your mouth and you could eat sooo many.....he told me when he was younger he could eat 2 to 3 dozen at a time......little much for even me...lol....

sadly.....i cant really contribute to this topic more than that because i am a severe diabetic......hence.....

donuts=carbs=VERY VERY BAD! but.......we do head out there every once in a long while.....

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of trying the best donut (Or possibly any bite of food) we had ever eaten. On a business trip to San Antonio, TX, we stopped by Round Rock, TX, on the way there and the way back. http://www.roundrockdonuts.com/ We had watched a special about it on the food network and had heard about it by word of mouth. The donuts were amazing !!!!!

I must join the chorus for Nord's. We get "french fries" from Nord's almost every Sunday. Having grown up in New Albany, I have a special place in my heart for Honey Cream, and confess to many late night trips to Krispy Kreme when the neon light is on, but the french fries at Nord's are really on a totally separate level of donut ecstasy.

Ok, I have a huge confession to make. In an extreme moment of insanity, I bought a doughnut franchise Sugarbelle's ( aka sugar & spice) in 1997. I fondly refer to those 3 years of my life as donut hell.Lousy location, and my need for some sleep at least 3 hours every couple of days helped me make the decision to close. I thought it would be a great business, because everyone loves fat & sugar! In reading these previous posts, i was having flashbacks to making coconut cream, apple fritters, cinnamon twists, and the 42 other varieties we made. Since closing in 2001, i have not been able to eat a donut. Not to kill it for all, but those 25 lb blocks of grease used each night really ended any desire for me to ever eat one again. Regardless, I am so glad that so many people did enjoy coming to my store at 4 am to get a donut fresh from the fryer, even if their arteries didn't.
thanks for letting me relive the toughest 3 years of my life.

What is a Nord's french fry?

It is a glazed dougnut that is shaped similarly to a Long John but the sides are twisted and it is open in the middle. It is fried almost crispy on the outside and the middle is still soft and chewy.
Ok after reading my description I realize it is hard to explain. The best way is just to go get one. You won't regret it.

Paula,
Thanks for another insider perspective on retail food service.
I will never look at a doughnut quite the same!

Really though, don't most of know what we're getting into when we shove that chocolate-covered, creme filled long john into our face.

Yep, I must concur..Jeff's has the best Apple Fritters I've ever had; and I've had a bunch from Jeff's(and have the gut to prove it)

I'll second the vote for Bussman's.

I'm a sucker for a custard filled donut and their's are killer.
