Lemongrass Highlands Closed - new place La Que?

by Jeff U » Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:54 pm

Probably already previously reported but Lemongrass at Baxter / Bardstown has closed and lots of work was being done through the weekend to freshen up and brighten the inside. It looked like a banner was hung that said La Que (from memory so I may be somewhat off). Any idea who / what it will be?

Don't know about that, but I'm sure there will be a line to get in.

I didn't have time to stop in but I did get a peek at the menu in the window - it's an Asian place with a fairly wide selection. (The menu range reminds me a bit of Cafe Mimosa.) A few curries, some noodle dishes, soups, etc. Mains were in the $6-9 range based on the choice of meat.

One of the places my husband found open during Ike madness. He brought home the Seafood in Spicy Basil sauce, some fried tofu and spring rolls. YUM! That seafood dish is one of the best in town! Chock full of big shrimp, mussels and enough scallops to make you notice ( places are so stingy with them anymore) with sweet red peppers and onion strips and fresh basil. That sauce was amazing. I don't know why the original comparison with Lemongrass was made...I have tried so hard to like Lemongrass in St Matthews because it's close to home. In the three times we were there, the food was mediocre to not good at all and the service was laughable. I'm definitely going back to La Que based on the quality of the dishes we had yesterday.

Marty reviewed it in the CJ and gave it quite a positive review. We went and were satisfied although not really blown away. It appears to be pretty much the same as Lemongrass - maybe even the same people - but with a little better quality and some new dishes on the menu. They apparently bailed out of the mini-chain, and from the evidence before us, made things a little better. It's still enough like Lemongrass that I don't think you'll find much unexpected there, though.

I agree about Lemongrass. I have tried many, many times to like it. It just doesn't do it for me.

I loved Golden Phoenix, which I guess became Lemongrass. Haven't found a sit-down Chinese place since Golden Phoenix that I actually like.

Not a fan of Oriental House or Jade Palace or Red Pepper? Or not had a chance to try them?
