Food In Gulf Shores/Fort Morgan Alabama?

by Kyle Meany » Sun Jun 15, 2008 7:39 pm

Hi all,

This is my first time writing on the forum. I gotta say I love the site and have found it very helpful when trying to decide where to eat in Louisville. That said, I am headed to Gulf Shores with the family in a couple of weeks and was wanting to know if anyone has any suggestions for good restaurants in the area. Anything that my be off the beaten path and not a huge tourist trap. Judging by some of the other responses people have gotten about traveling questions, I figured this would be the best place to ask.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

I highly recommend the Gulf Shores Steamer. I remember the corn on the cob being mushy, but the seafood was great. I'm also pretty fond of DeSoto's Seafood Kitchen. And Hazel's Nook has a good breakfast buffet. Skip Lulu's; it's a huge and hugely overrated tourist trap and the food is mediocre.

I'm really interested in seeing the other responses on this thread. I've gone to Gulf Shores every year for the past three years and I'm hoping to go later this summer, too. I'd love to hear about some great new restaurants to try. (And I'm already imagining sitting on the deck at the Steamer with a pile of seafood and a Yuengling. Bliss!)

For good pub food and cold beer on a breezy evening, you have to go to the Pink Pony Pub in Gulf Shores. The place has survived multiple hurricanes over about a 40 year time period and has achieved local legenary status.

Tacky Jack's is a great breakfast place. They serve huge farmer's omelets and they're right on the water. I actually like Lulu's. It is a tourist hotspot, but we've eaten there twice and both times I've been happy with the things that I've ordered. I think that the prices are really reasonable, too. If you're a fan of live music check Lulu's website for the bands that they have scheduled to play.

If you have kids, The Crab Trap is a decent place to go. They have a play ground right next to the outside tables. I think it's a little expensive for the quality and it would be a bit of a drive from Fort Morgan.

Just got back from Orange Beach (visited there for the second year in a row...) and hands down the best place we ate at both times is Sea-N-Suds. It is located right on the beach and has a really, really, really good fish sandwich as well as some to-die-for onion rings... Their website is http://www.sea-n-suds.com and they have their menu online there with prices too.

We just got back from Gulf Shores this week. And I will second the Sea -n- Suds recommendation. It was a great dinner for the price, and the drinks were the cheapest we could find in town.

We did visit LuLu's - the wait was not worth it. The food was ok, but not with an hour and a half wait with an 18 month old who just wanted to get wet and sandy in the play area.

Calapsyo Joe's in Orange Beach was great! Sit out side and enjoy the night air. The food was wonderful and was a great break from fried fish we had been having. My son loved the crab races.

If you are staying on Ft. Morgan, there are not a whole lot of restaurant options in that area unless you are willing to drive a short ways to Gulf Shores. At the end of Ft. Morgan Rd there is a Tacky Jacks 2. They have some of the best fried crawfish & shrimp po boys I have ever had. The Beach Club is also on Ft. Morgan Rd & had a pretty nice restaurant. It is a little on the fancier side but every meal I have ever had there has been pretty tasty. If you go be sure to try one of their Pina Colada's made w/ ice cream!
