I agree completely. I also wonder what Gill and Augusta Holland will be showing at their green building on Market and how often.

We visited a similar place in Asheville last summer but didn't see a film. They were more mainstream. Here's a more food-centric video feature about the place from the Traveling Vegetarian. The pizzas was tasty.

Just because I'm at work waiting for NykoleS to pick me up and I'm just this way...

http://leoweekly.com/?q=node/6993 (you'll have to go about halfway down...)

Man, I hope they're serious about this. This would be so cool. Nyki and I went to Guadalajara, MX 3 years ago and went to a movie theatre where they served sushi and beer while I sat in a nice recliner watching "Batman Inicio" (yeah, I'm still impressed -- it doesn't take much). Any chance anyone knows any of the folks involved? I may fork out for one of their packages if I knew more.

From the Louisville Vanguard website:
After all, as Bertolt Brecht said, "A theater without beer is just a museum."

Hmmm... maybe I've found a signature for the forum. ;-)

Agreed! I find it hard to believe a town with an internationally respected theatre, a town with innovative music from the Louisville Orchestra to Slint, Will Oldham, Shipping News to The Photographic and Paradigm to My Morning Jacket and VHS or Beta, a town that supports multiple art gallery trolley hops every month, a town with an amazingly varied and sophisticated cuisine... I can't believe this town can't support an art theatre. I mean, really. It is a failure of imagination and will. We have not had for years the kind of venue, promotion, and education needed. Baxter Ave. and Village 8 have been tepid wusses. UL must have an English department of media illiterates (and that's where I got my English degree!). I'm old enough to have weaned myself on Bergman, Antonioni, Godard, Fellini at the Crescent on Frankfort Ave - and to have been projectionists at UL's Friday night films showing 8 1/2 and Alphaville and the Apu Trilogy. I'm old, folks, but I find the young in this respect to be the cowards - both entrepeneurs and audiences. The Vanguard is one project that gives me hope.

This would be fantastic. I miss the Brew & View that was in Chicago when I lived there. You could order pizza from across the street and pitchers of beer in house. Had cocktail tables, 'stadium' seating and recliners and showed double features... loved it. I never did have the chance to go to the one at Plainview but remember it well, definitely mid-80s.

I like this quote, too:

After all, as Bertolt Brecht said, "A theater without beer is just a museum."

But a theater with swill is just another place to pay homage to the multinationals. Luckily, we're told:

The food will be innovative - often reflecting the themes of the current film offerings. The food, spirit, beer, and wine choices will feature local and regional production.

That's soundtrack music to my ears. In fairness, I was treated to a bit of insider's information about this project, and it's a keeper, indeed. Looking forward to food and beer that match and enhance the overall theme!

Gosh, I miss the "Vogue" and the "Uptown".....

For me, growing up, that was as good as it was ever going to get(an excuse to stay out late)....

I miss those "Midnight Movies".....
