Olivia's on Goss

by MHall » Sat Jun 14, 2008 12:15 pm

Olivia's on Goss (named after chef's daughter) does offer some vegetarian dishes. Check out the menu at http://www.oliviasongoss.com
The restaurant is gorgeous and the food is delicious! Chef Travis Hall graduated from Sullivan College of Culinary Arts and worked his way up by way of the Bellvue Biltmore in FL, Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta,GA, Angelo & Maxies (Chart House owned upscale steak house) in New York and VA. He is also got his feet wet by previously owning Eva Mae's Creekside in Harrod's Creek!
The Donerail salad is yummy and has an interesting story. Chef Travis' s wife (Mary) is related to jockey Roscoe Goose who won the Derby in 1913 on Donerail. This race paid $184.50 on a $2.00 bet and the record still stands today!
Big Brown -Kentucky Hot Brown is second to none and my favorite sandwich is Spectacular Bid if you like Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches (my mouth is watering). Perfect place to spend an afternoon shopping in the antique mall and eating at Olivia's :D . You won't be disappointed.

It sounds great and I'm happy for them. However, do you have some affiliation with Olivia's? It sort of sounds like it.... just always good to disclose. Welcome to the board, regardless.

Username is Mhall, and the Chef's wife is named Mary Hall. Probably a coincidence

Obviously a completely unbiased review. It is amazing how quick the review was since it only opened today. A great first spam post by a new member.

Good luck anyway.

I don't know the above reviewer of Olivia's,however it does seem that they might be related. A very close friend of mind is the dining room manager there and I have eaten there a handful of times, they do make great sandwiches as I have ordered a different menu item each time I have been. They did not open today...they have been opened for about six weeks. I encourage people to check them out, they make very good food and have a space that I find very inviting and comfortable. Just wanted to clear up the confusion about how long they have been open and give my buddies some words of encouragement... Keep up the great work Travis, Will & company.

If it is Mary Hall, all one has to do is write:

"My husband and I have just opened Olivia's and we're so excited and think you'll love it. Yada, Yada, Yada" and there's no harm, no foul.

Didn't mean to stir up any negative energy. I thought it was pretty clear we are related or I would have changed my username to something more inconspicuous. The kids and I (Logan-8, Olivia-4, Quinn and Rowan-1) are Chef Travis's # 1 fans and we wanted to clear up the vegetarian issue. Olivia's has had a opening for six weeks and this is the grand opening weekend! Come out and try it. The food is really great. Thanks!

After looking over the menu, I can't wait to try Olivia's. The salads and sandwiches sound great. It is off my beaten path, but looks worthy of the trip.

WOW - way to welcome new people to the board. Something like this might have been a little nicer.

"Welcome to the forum Mhall. The menu looks great and we are excited something new has opened in The Cafe' former location. While advertising new openings and special events is commonplace on this site it is best to clear it through Robin and identify that you are associated with the restaurant."

That might be better way to welcome new people into our foodie world. Just a thought.....

I would also like to wish Chef Travis well in this venture. I have worked with him before and he is a very talented chef.
If you keep looking back, you will miss what's ahead....
