Pastors for Peace benifit at Rudyard Kipling

by Will Crawford » Thu Jun 12, 2008 5:57 pm

Monday, June 23rd, "the Dozens of Dollars" plays a benefit @ Rudyard Kipling. It's for "Pastors for Peace". This is their 19th year of bringing a caravan of buses loaded with medical supplies to Cuba. An in your face act of civil disobedience to protest our government's policy toward Cuba. Each year ?school buses are purchased, filled with medical supplies, driven in various caravans all over the U.S., stopping for awareness-raising events and fundraisers. The buses all converge on the Mexican border, where they cross together, making a point of what they are up too...a big game of confrontation ensues, with the U.S. authorities threatening to lock them all up. Eventually they are allowed through, since the border crossing is held up, and the press is there. The caravan then heads to a port, buses are put on a ship for Cuba. a bunch of the Bus riders head to Cuba too, and spend time there with various NGO's. Getting the inside scoop on whats going on, meeting with all kinds of folks, partying, etc.
Ken Jones rode along in a bus last year, and was so inspired that he bought a bus for $10,000 and is driving it this year! So the benefit at the "Rud" is for his bus. He has so far raised $8,000 to repay himself as well as pay for other costs associated with the bus. ?He will be there, as will be his bus and the various crazies traveling with him. The benefit is from 7:30 to 9:30.
