They definitely have great fish! Or at least the one in Louisville does. Seems like every time we go there I end up ordering the fish and chips because it's a good. I know they have lots of other good food too but habits are a hard thing to break.

I have had several good sandwiches at the Irish Rover on Frankfort, nice beer batter style. I have had good experiences at the Fish House, but the thin sliced heavy corn meal Green River style doesn't quite do it for me. Raw onions on fish? Two weeks ago I stopped at the Fishery in St. Matthews which I think represents the ultimate Louisville fish sandwich. Thick cut, substantial breading which is not overpowering and does not separate from the fish. Decent industrial rye bread and my favorite, huge squeeze bottles of cold tartar sauce on the table. Their sandwich is tasty enough to eat with a squeeze of lemon, but I believe the Louisville sandwich is all about the rye and the tartar. The basic sandwich is around six fifty and I stopped worrying about side items years ago. Oh, and most important: always made to order. Cunningham's downtown is a close second, but they occasionally pre-cook during busy periods. My waiter said that I could ask for made to order if I didn't mind the wait.

Clarksville Seafood's fried Haddock is my goto for fried fix.[/quote]

Their fish is, and always has been, scrod. Fresh and never frozen, I've had the tour behind the swinging door.

My top 3 are all over here in Indiana.
1. Clarksville Seafood, although they never seem to be open when I am hungry.
2. Market Street Fish House.
3. Skip Jacks, which does indeed have some awesome tartar sauce!

I feel like opting for the Fishery when Stans is right across the street is a huge mistake. Possibly a sin. Maybe I will try and go back to Fishery soon.

I have a similar problem. I really do like the Fishery, a lot, but it's awfully hard to be that close to Stan's and not go.

Stan's has more variety in terms of what's available. For bare bones fried fish and fries I give the nod to The Fishery. Truth is there is a mixed view on this in the family...therefore, both places get plenty of our money.

I like Clarksville Seafood too, Tom, but I can never figure when it's open!

I know what you mean Robin. Gina and I read in a thread about Seafood Connection's Lobster Roll and stopped by twice now to no avail. First stop was a Monday or perhaps Sunday and they didn't fry that day. Today we get their @ 2:35 to find they stop serving @ 2:30......Ugh!

Sooner or later this wore out hairtop computer will get it right.

Had to got to NABc for Rochefort 10s and an Herbivore to lick our wounds.

An excellent antidote!

It might be worth calling over to Brendan at St. Matthews Seafood Connection to make sure the lobster roll is still on the menu ... I haven't had one for a while, but it was truly great - all lobster meat and a dab of mayo, essentially no filler at all.

IMHO, We serve a "mean" fish sandwich at the club!!!!!....

We serve well over 100 lbs. of Icelandic Cod a week....(Fried, Blackened, Sauteed or Dr. Denham style)....

But for my money...Clarksville Seafood is always my first choice....

They have the most obscure hours of any place that has been in business over 40 years but; It is always good, cheap, and very tasty!!!!!! Nothing else compares!

I like Moby Dick as well...(I like the cracker-meal breading) The off-color, inside joke I have with my wife goes like this....
I'll ask her when considering our dining choices "Do you want some Dick?(refering to the fish ) and she usually replies "The Dick will do you good!" and then I reply with "The Dick will make you sick!" and then we will share a Fish box for Two!....

And I have to give a shout out to Captain D's... I also enjoy the batter fried goodness and sides that they have...Pretty good stuff for a "chain"...I always have the coupons in my ride just in case I want a 2.99 fish and fries...
