All Aboard.....The Dinner Train?

by DeeDee D » Sun Jun 01, 2008 7:44 pm

Does anyone know anything about the dinner train in Bardstown (at least I think it's Btown)? We was thinking about doing this for our wedding anniversary this month. The train part sounds fun, but I'm worried the food will not be very good. Like maybe it's an after thought.....Thanks for any help!

It's My Old kentucky Dinner Train. We went a few years back and the food was good. Not exceptional, but good. It was more for the trip than the cuisine, and the service was fine.

I've never been aboard but know people that have. Their comments were generally what Suzi said. One recommendation is do the Murder Mystery. It is a rolling who-done-it with audience participation.

We've been. I have to agree with Suzi. Food is OK, but you go mainly for the train ride experience.

We took the inlaws out for the dinner train. The food was good but not anything special. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We found the train ride to be OK at best. The scenery mostly consists of looking at peoples backyards. They take you a few miles out it seemed, and then the train just goes back in reverse so you see the same thing twice. This said, the folks seemed to really enjoy the train ride. Not a bad place to take some out of towners, but not sure I would recomend it for an anniversary dinner,
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

There are 4 seats to every large table so you may be sharing your anniversary dinner with strangers.
(Unless you invite two other people along, of course.)

My girlfriend and I did not have a problem with the the table arrangement.
However, we may have been just lucky to be seated with friendly dinner companions.

I am not sure if the wait in line to board and leave the train is quite worth the trouble, but the staff is efficient and courteous.

The food was just okay and the menu is somewhat limited. (Also, there is a slight rate increase. Like everything else )

Just to add a bit about the Mystery Train aspect - we did this about 2 years ago and it was fun. There was something old-fashioned about it, probably the train combined with the play - we enjoyed it and just finished inviting the in-laws to go with us again this summer. I have the same comments about the food - good but not exceptional.
