Places that don't feel like you are in Louisville

by Scott Endres » Sat May 31, 2008 1:50 pm

While eating at The Bodega for breakfast this morning, we both made the comment that we didn't feel like we were in Louisville. So the question is, if you were to save money and take a vacation in Louisville area, what restaurants would you visit to get that "not in Louisville" feeling?

We both said the old Bistro New Albany, and of course NABC is in another world. (Yes, I realize neither of those are "in Louisville", but you get the idea.)

I hate when people don't answer the question posed, so I apologize in advance for committing such a violation of etiquette, but one of the things I like best about Louisville is that whether I am at the Granville Inn, Vietnam Kitchen, Proof on Main, 610 Magnolia, Flabby's, or L&N, I feel like I am in Louisville. To me, great and greatly varied cuisine is one of the hallmarks of Louisville. When people ask me what kind of food Louisville is known for, I always reply, "good food."

I agree with that. The reason I listed North End and Toast is because they remind me of places I love. North End reminds me of the feel of Durham/Chapel Hill and doesn't feel like a lot of restaurants in Louisville. Toast, likewise seems like an off the beaten path place in a larger metro area.

Blue Dog Bakery. For some reason, maybe the colors or a vibe, I feel a bit like I'm in the Hamptons. Now if only they had a lobster roll ... oooh, baby.

Seafood Connection in St. Matthews had a GREAT lobster roll when Mike Hungerford was there. I assume it's still on the menu.

You can't mean that for real....

When I lived in New England most McDonald's offered a "Lobster Roll" for $6.99...

Granted, that was about 10 years ago....

I would be hard pressed to even come close to that poor offering now for the tariff!!!!

How much would you be willing to pay for a "real" New England lobster roll(if done correctly)!

That is a tough question......'

In my mind, Le Relais has the most "cosmopolitan " feel with the dining experience to match!

You really have to think about where your at after dining there...

You're not Downtown, but not so far out that it wouldn't remind you of some place else....

The food and service are always top notch!
