Sahara Cafe Closing tonight

by Linda C » Sat May 31, 2008 6:40 am

We were strolling through the 'hood and stopped in for carry out and saw the sign which said that May 31 was the last day. Evidently, the issue is about space and rental, etc. She told me that she is looking for a new location. We were told that the new place will be a sushi restaurant and he is "the best sushi chef" in Louisville. Any guesses? I'm going to miss the Sahara!

I wasn't familiar with that cafe. Where was it?

It was in the new strip on Lexington Rd...corner of Lexington and Bauer Ave. Next to Incredible Edibles and House of Denim. In a spot which once inhabited the Tobacco Road Gas ststion....;-)

I walk four miles every morning and my route takes me past the Bauer and Lexington location. I can't believe it took me 3 weeks to notice Sahara was gone. I looked over and saw the big 'Asahi' sign this morning. I really hope she finds a new place soon (the empty Tologono site would be perfect, just across the street!). She had some superb dishes, and it was convenient to have a good Mediterranean spot in walking distance.

I like that we're getting good sushi there, but I want my tabouleh and tuna both!

Tologono is already leased (do not know who) and they decided against leasing to restaurants again anyway.
