Bombay Grill

I stumbled across Sanjay's post about this new Indian restaurant in the Forum Center on Hurstbourne and Shelbyville Rd and went in yesterday for the lunch buffet...only because the Gordita Trailer isn't open at lunchtime :D It was really good! South Indian food is quite different from the north Indian I am used to at Shalimar. The place was packed by the time we left, all Indians. I haven't seen any advertising for this place, but word has spread, obviously. For someone like me who is familiar with Shalimar I think I'd describe the food on the buffet as a little more spicy, maybe a little more asian influenced (they had spring rolls), even the vegetable pakoras were different. They had two soups to choose from, and many more condiments and chutneys than Shalimar. The waitress brought a couple of the rice crepes to our table, filled with potatoes and onions, incredibly good. There are a ton of vegetarian dishes on the buffet , for carnivores the tandoori chicken was juicy and flavorful, the chicken curry was delicious and there were a lot of different dishes I had never tried before and won't attempt to guess at their names. I'm going to have a hard time deciding between this place and Shalimar for lunch...

That's masala dosa ... wonderful stuff! The new Sitar and Royal India both have them on the menu, by the way ... but I can't wait to try this one!

Stopped by the Bombay Grill tonight with the family for dinner and overall it was a relatively positive experience. We started off with the Vegetarian Sampler Appetizer. I didn't care for alot of this as it was basically 4 or 5 variations of fried breaded veggies. There was nothing wrong with the food - just too much of a fried taste. The samosa was the best with a nice herbed filling. The assorted chutney/condiments were very good.

We had a vegatable korma, lamb curry, and the rice crepe with potato and onion filling. Garlic nan rounded out our order. I was impressed by the fresh taste of the meat and vegatables. We ordered everything mild and it was a bit too mild....next time we'll go medium (sometimes medium is too hot...varies from place to place IMO). In the end the bill with a soft drink and chai tea came to right at $40. Add $10 tip and it was a nice night out. I have to say....you have to be looking for this place to find it...if not for Hot Bytes I'd have never looked in that back corner. Great alternative to Shalimar if you need an occasional change.
