Wine Box

by Leah S » Wed May 21, 2008 8:17 am

This is at elast sort of food related, but frankly I posted here because this is the most-seen forum.

One of my brides has been looking everywhere for a wine box that will hold one bottle and two glasses. it must be wooden and have a lid.

They are wanting to do the wine ceremony, which goes like this. During the wedding, they place a bottle of wine, the two glasses and letters they have written to each other into the box and nail it shut. Then the box is stored until a) they have a divorce-inducing fight, whereupon they open the box, read the letters and drink the wine and make decisions, or b) the 25th anniversary.

Anyway, she's looked at all the usual places for such a box. Anyone got an idea?

I suggest going to a wine shop like Old Town or Prospect Party Center and asking for a wooden wine crate. Many of the higher end French wines ship in wood boxes.

I guess then a saw, hammer, nails, and some wood are in order for a wedding gift.

I've got a beer box that would work, if they would be interested in that. It's a Gouden Carolus Grand Cru of the Emporer wooden crate that held 12 bottles on their sides. Its a very nice looking package, but I'm not sure if the fact that its a beer box would deter them.

Maybe they should buy the one that holds two bottles of wine and 2 glasses, that way if the wedding ends in divorce they won't have to fight over who gets to keep the bottle of wine. Of course if they don't get divorced they'll have two bottles to celebrate with!

Choosing a wine that will be drinkable in 25 years could be a challenge but a Dunn Cabernet will definitely be about right to drink in that length of time if it's stored correctly.

Thanks to all for your suggestins. She called Old Town after I suggested she not ask for a wine box, but rather a wine crate. they had a shipment coming in today and are holding one or two for her. I suspet that maybe when she called the wine stores and said the words "wine box" people thought she was talking about Franzia.

If she strikes out...give me a PM or an e-mail, ebw01@bellsouth.net, I can get you various sizes and shapes of wine crates pretty easy.
