Thinking ahead - 4th of July

by Michele Melillo-Clem » Thu May 15, 2008 11:13 pm

Just wondering. How many people do you really think will visit a restaurant on this family cookout day? It's on a Friday and I hate to lose this day of business, but I'm not sure people will come downtown to eat lunch or dinner. I'm thinking ahead and would love to have your opinions. Thanks

I am for sure cooking out. I don't know about the rest of the 300 million Americans, but this is the ultimate grill out weekend. Not to mention the patriotism. This is the day our country was founded. Maybe someone else will be more apt to pose a more eloquent verse or 3 about what America is or should be.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I'm sure a lot of beer and fireworks will be purchased. I can almost guarantee any restaurant staff will be bored out of their mind on that night. I'm not sure what I'll be doing other than celebrating my birthday, but I've learned you can never get anyone together because anybody that can get to a lake or a cookout does so...

I usually close Sweet Surrender that entire week for vacation. It seems like the entire city is on vacation then and business crawls.

Two years ago I tried to take my momma out to dinner on The Fourth because her B-day is the third. Without exaggerating, we spent just as much time finding a place that was open as we did dining. We covered Frankfort Ave., B-town Road, Brownsboro Road, a little of Downtown... Mind you, it was also a Sunday, but I would venture to guess that the result for those that choose to be open puts them in the profit margin.

When I was a restaurant person...I remember that the 4th of July was a "ghost town" for business.....

Now that I'm at a club...... It's one of our biggest days....

If I was at most any local Indy place, I would be asking off that day, or hope that the owners have enough since to close!....

We are typically out of town for the summer holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day), but always looking for a place to eat for the winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's).
