What's new at Carly Rae's?

by David Clancy » Wed May 14, 2008 3:58 pm

Everything! Carly Rae's in glamorous Old Louisville is now under completely new management with new food, menus, and a new dude in the kitchen (me). We have private dining for up to 30, and arguably the best al fresco patio on the planet (even nicer than my old one with a really cool new water feature to go with the two fountains). Stop in and see what's cooking......(thank's to Robin for allowing this shameless plug)

Thrilling news, Dave. I used to haunt those environs myself, when it was briefly "The Chef's Table". It's a cool space with a cool vibe, and now a newly cool chef. Best of luck there - we will be down to visit.

Thank's Marsha! Since the fine science of pastry often eludes me, I will probably be calling on you pretty soon (though I do make a wicked cheesecake). Great article by the way!

Congrats, old feller! ;)

When do you expect to roll out the new menu? Can you generalize? For instance, will it stick to the same general eclectic upscale-casual style of the "old" CarlyRae's, or will you move in a new direction? Thai-Senegalese fusion? Also, is it Carly Rae's or CarlyRae's? I've seen it both ways ...

Carly Rae's is a very cool spot that I always forget to return to when I'm trying to think of a place to go. I've actually only been there once for late night quaff, but I checked out their menu, relaxed on a couch in the library room, then out to the patio as the weather was nice. Undermentioned, totally. And a big place, too. That was last summer so I'll have to venture in again without haste to recall the excellent atmosphere. I'll bet that's a great fit you, Dave.

Good luck.

I've been to Carly Rae's twice in the past year or 18 months, and each time I found it pleasant, competent, and a bit forgettable. In my completely unprofessional opinion, it needs to be memorable. Memorable restaurants are some combination of atmosphere, service, and food quality that makes you want to return. The menu seemed to me to be themeless and nothing that made me say, "I've got to go back." Some places can get by with that because of the "vibe" or some such.

Let's hope for some memorable meals.

I always liked the specialty beer tastings on Wednesday night and Ping Pong on the patio. I hadn't delved into the menu very much. I need to get back in.

It's Carly Rae's (yah, two words, a surprize to me too!) I am relegated to an old menu right now but it is serviceable (mostly Cajun/ Creole but can be executed with a certain degree of flair). New menu (mine) will be forthcoming as soon as I can get everyone on the same page (previous Chef bailed right before Derby.....I think there is a law against that.....No?). Anyway, good thing's are happening and as for the Thai-Senegalese fusion.....that would be COOL!! (I'll work up a prototype menu and maybe we can pull that off..)

Thank God someone who can cook will finally be at that place. That was the downfall of Carley Rae's. They had one of the better beer selections and "knowhow" guys in Brandon at the bar and we would all frequent regurarly. But trying to order some food that was worth eating, (plus the prices were waaaaayyyy too high for what you were getting) was impossible. Stopped going there about 4 mos before I left town. Best of luck to you on bringing this place back. It's a great spot with a lot of character!

Prost!

I eat lunch there once a week and Dave has REALLY kicked the food up several notches. The people there are great and genuinely want you to have a good experience. The Patio is one of the best in Louisville, IMO.

Alright Dave! Good to see you back in the saddle. Ride on Buckaroo.

Dave did an outstanding job for me and I'm sure he is at the top of his game. I have to stop in for lunch.

Me Too...

However, I will be hard pressed not to get an Ollieburger if I have any reason to go down that way these days...

But, I'm pretty sure I can get a tasty snack and way better than average beverage "Cold Libation' at Carley Ray's

Dan, I wrote the same thing then deleted it. I love my Ollie Burger and Fries. When ever I am even close to downtown I go for it.
