Tough times, Toki. I regret that I have not enjoyed your lunch, but I was in for a light dinner recently, and I'll stand by my thoughts that Maido thrives beyond expectation. In case you do not know who I am, think, "Kathy and Bill". I'm thrilled to asscociate myself with you.

Toki,

I'm not sure I understand your comment, and would appreciate more info. What does "dramatic increase in supplies" mean? To my weak non-restaurant mind, it means that customer traffic has been lesser than you anticipated any inventory is up. Am I close?

im guessing, an increase in prices...rather than supplies? not sure, i live by maido. i love this place and plug it every chance i get. in any case, i havent been to the lunch buffet. so im not sure what im missing. but if it is all you can handle of the regular entrees, damn it... i missed it. good luck maido. see you some evening.

Best wishes, Toki! I know this was a necessary decision, but I'm sorry to hear it because the brunch was wonderful!

excuse my Japanglish... in fact, my staff were making fun of my English right before I put this out.
In the last few weeks rice price went up a lot and they told me that it will probably continue to go up. And not just rice...everything else. And your guess was right too. Sometimes buffet food is there but people are ordering off the menu or just not enough people to continue. Instead, we decide to create a nice happy hour menu.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

Why aren't we talking about the recent break-ins in this neighborhood? Maido and Northend twice each. I know Maido has sufferered for this, you need to go support them more than ever, and the cops are where?

First I've heard about it. With $4 gas and a shaky economy, I'm afraid crime isn't likely to get better, but the police need to be on it. Are you saying response has been, um, less than satisfactory?

Ugh! I was wondering what the boarded window meant. I guess I was hoping it was a glass issue and NOT a theft issue. That is a serious shame...

Sigh,,,,I'm sure the cops are doing what they can, but living in the neighborhood makes me especially edgy right now. I don't see any increase in presence, they are sure who it is and can't prove it, and working an opposite schedule from my spouse so that I'm home alone at night w/ bebe is absolutely terrifying right now. All they got from N. End was an empty f%##@ cash drawer, but it took a brick thru the window to get it! I wish they'd just catch the stupid meth heads before they siphon gas from my car or bust my window! Rant over.

After I saw the post about the lunch buffet ending, I got there as fast as I could as I have never tried the lunch buffet there before. It was lovely and I am sorry to see it go. I kind of wish I never tried the lunch because now I am going to miss it!

Myself and my co-workers who have tried to regularly hit Maido for lunch were all saddened to hear this news. I spread the word here at work as soon as I read this thread. Several of us made lunch stops there this week to get our fix before it was no longer available. The restaurant seemed to have been packed more than any of our previous trips on both occasions that we visited this week. Toki, I hope you will reconsider and maybe still offer lunch once a week or something. I would gladly pay a couple of extra bucks for your buffet and it would still be a bargain.
