Prospect area dining - Non-chain

What non-chain recommendations do you have for Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Prospect area ?

In no particular order for Prospect/Harrods Creek area:

Bristol Bar & Grill
Hanabi
Captains Quarters
J. Harrods
Chick Inn
Eva Maes
Cunninghams
Ermines Bakery

I would head out U.S. 42 from Prospect about 20 minutes and have dinner at Westport General Store in Westport KY. IMO the best choice for dinner above all the ones in Prospect.

Good picks, Ed!

Was the omission of Vince Staten's intentional? I've been awfully disappointed since the move, but wasn't sure whether you were discreetly on the same page, or just overlooked it. ;)

They have fallen off my Radar, Robin. The only thing I can suggest as edible at Staten's are the sides.

It's sad, but apparently we're on the same page, then. Thanks, Ed!

If you include Cunningham/Cap'n Quarters and Bristol, I'd want to include Los Azteca's also . . . still one of our favorite Mexican places, and a very successful local chain (with - especially at lunch - an entirely Mexican clientele of all of the yard-men in the general area). It meets our criteria for an "authentic" Mexican restaurant: at the cash register one can purchase discount phone cards for calls to Latin America.

Also, Rick's new restaurant should be opening soon in Prospect Point Center, and there is a Chinese carryout place around the back of the center (I wouldn't really recommend it, tho if you want Chinese food it isn't terrible)

A nice 5 minute road trip down 329 will get you at Fast Break Pizza in Crestwood. Good pizza and sandwiches and great people.

Jiminy Christmas!!?!?!? How could I forget Los Aztecas? We really like the food and the people there. They will sell you ground chorizo by the pound to take home as well.
Panda China is the chinese take away and is unremarkable. Really looking forward to Rick's new place.

The Bristol in Prospect has been a place to go when we can't think of any place else we want to go. Does that even make sense?

I'm looking forward to Rick's moving out that way. I've not been to J. Harrod's in recent memory. For some reason I've never made the trek up the hill to Stanton's new location....maybe I won't bother. I always did like their banana pudding though.

Frankly with the Snyder right there...you can get to Corbett's (sic) in 5 minutes if you want up-scale.

No, they are still open and seem to have cars in the lot every night. I haven't been there in years. Odd thing: I have gotten two different invitations for those "financial planning" free dinners that have been hosted there. It Looks like a mass mailing, blanket the neighborhood thing. Those are one step above the "time share vacation home" dinners I guess.

Not just the neighborhood. I got them too. Maybe they're spamming the HotBytes forum? :D

I'm not sure they're one step above time shares. At least with a timeshare you have something to show if you buy in, with the financial planning all you can see at the end is the Mercedes the planner is driving!

The last time I was there, which was last summer, I was less than satisfied. They have a great looking place, though the location is lacking. It's in the back of a new building where the Melrose Inn used to be. That right there is enough to piss me off, but I can let it go. Progress, as they say, happens. Damn, at what cost.

Anyhow, the interior is a very nice 2 level deal but what matters is the food. Evidently, Vince is no longer involved. As has been stated, the sides are adequate and the meat is just lacking what constitutes real BBQ. It seems to be steamed, then wrapped in foil. Please bring Vince back. Didn't he write the BOOK???
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.
