You may want to check out Lonnies Taste of Chicago. 121 St Matthews dr. They make a great Chicago style dog.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

There's a tiny new hot dog stand open near the corner of Speed and Bardstown Road (in the old Hawaiian Shaved Ice shack). Called KC and the Hot Dog Stand it has a pretty long menu of dogs (including a veggie dog, a slaw dog, brats, etc). I don't remember the restaurant you references so this might not be what you had in mind at all.

I saw a sign for a new hot dog place in, I think, the old Cherry Bomb location on Bardstown Road near Highland Ave. Not open yet. Know nothing about it.

I had Lonnie's a couple of times when I lived closer to St. Matthews and they are good dogs.

Interested to try out KC's....

Anyone know what type of dogs Derby City does? Run of the mill, specialty dogs, brats, polish sausage, etc?

Are their hot dogs any better than their Chili? I certainly hope so since I won't eat their Chili.

Cincinnati chili really needs to be understood as Greek meat sauce for spaghetti, which is really what it is. Greek immigrants to Cincy after WWII failed in their efforts to open Greek restaurants because nobody understood Greek food. But when they re-purposed spaghetti with meat sauce as chili, it became popular. Go figure.

Maybe that's my problem with their chili, I believe chili is to be eaten from a bowl with a few crackers added. If it's got spaghetti noodles, it's spaghetti and should be flavored accordingly (ie. Italian flavored). As for Chile on a hot dog, I believe it should be just meet without beans.

Fair enough! :D

The Greek connection is worth mentioning, though, because at least it offers a sound explanation for the otherwise wacky practice of flavoring chili with cinnamon.

Back to Hot Dogs .... if you are near Preston and Indian Trail try out Landry's, they have Vienna beef and hotdogs with fluorescent relish  just like Chicago... nice people but they have an uphill battle out here where its far from Chicago.

I remember reading on this forum a while ago that Lonnie's was going to open a Highlands location. Is he still going to open with Derby City Dogs recent opening? Derby City Dogs has a very limited menu and is more like a hotdog stand in a store front rather than a full-menu place like Lonnie's.

Last time we were in Lonnies, a few weeks ago, they said they were just waiting on some contractors to finish up prior to opening. They will be near the KFC in the highlands.
