Frank's steak houses gone

I'm reliably informed that both Frank's, Southern Indiana and Hurstbourne, closed today.

That is such a neat building in a lively area. I worked in it briefly when it was Garrett's. I wonder what is keeping that building from being successful.

Is this for good, or just for today?

I find it hard to take a left onto the property with it being so close to the light. During the brunch rush it can be a real "treat"...

The building is actually looking quite rundown both inside and out these days. Even when it was Garrett's, it didn't look so great near the end and since Frank's has opened it has only gotten worse. As stated elsewhere the location is very hard to enter and exit, a back way out so you would enter Shelbyville Road and the traffic light would help considerably.

That is truly the end of an era for me. For years I used to go to the Jeffersonville Frank's with my Grandfather. It was his favorite place to go out to eat. Whether I was living in the area, or visiting from Ohio or Arizona, I always knew that I would get a visit in there with him. Even after he passed away 2 years ago, we kept making our way over there. I have a lot of good memories in that building, and it is a sad day indeed to see it go.

I went to Frank's on Shelbyville Rd two different times and the food was just ok. That can sometimes take a restaurant down, mediocre food......

I had always heard good things with the location in Jeff, but never got a chance to try it.

The Jeff location had been there for years, but very often they didn't seem to want to seat people when the place wasn't busy at all. Also, the service could be bad and, at least for a long while, they wanted to charge extra for salad dressing.

Its a good chance that they expanded where they could not do the business they needed to. It's not an easy thing to take something that works well in one location and replicate that in another location. I'm sure the management was pulling their hair out trying to run both places after so many years just running one place. Plus, the two areas that their restaurants were located in were very different economic areas. The Louisville location was a much more upscale area compared to the Jeffersonville location. Maybe the quirks and charm that made the Jeffersonville location a success, did not work out as well in the Shelbyville Road/Hurstborne area

My workplace ordered dinner from their Hurstbourne location for awhile until we begged them to stop. It was awful. Chemically tenderized gristly meat, mummified chicken and baked potatoes old enough to vote.

Good riddance.

Anyone else out here have a business plan to make the rent in a couple of "High Volume" places?....
I'm way undercapitalized but I feel I could honestly make the Shelbyville Rd. location work...I'm only 1.1 mill short...

The place needs a total re-vamp from front to back....(and that's on the "cheap side")

Come'on Clancy...I Know you have Steak House experience....Between yourself and I were only 1.1 Million short!...

I may be alone in my opinion on this one but as far as I'm concerned the restaurant lost all it's charm after it stopped being Langtry's Road House. They remodeled, took out that beautiful staircase and closed off the upstairs and all the ambiance just drained out.

My husband and I ate there shortly before it closed. It was no suprise. I had one of the worst prime ribs ever. There was nothing special about our dinners at all. In fact, my food was hardly even hot. The wine tasted like the bottle had been opened several days earlier and the service was pretty poor.
