Excellent Dinner at Primo tonight!

by RonnieD » Sun Apr 20, 2008 1:23 am

Mother took the wife and I out for our 5th Anniversary. After seeing Bill Cosby (the 5pm show) we braved a walk-in at Primo. (I know, I know, I read Marsha's article, but this was a last minute idea...)

We walked in at 730pm. Not surprisingly, we were told that there were a number of reservations at that time and that we would be seated soonest available. I have to admit, it was looking bleak. Lots of reservations were coming in. Yet luck was with us! After less than 30 mins. we were graciously shown to our table. (Our exceptional hostess confided in us that a group of 16 prom night teens had just crashed the place, sans reservation, and that had severely backed things up. (I can only imagine being in the kitchen when that went down) Thus, we were pleasantly surprised at being seated so quickly. Our server was with us almost immediately, although sadly I did not catch his name, he was very attentive and friendly.

We started off with the Calzone. A fantastic handcrafted affair in a light tomato sauce. The wife and I had Caesar salads, both were quite good, but we quibbled on the dressing, I argued that it was a little weak for my taste, my wife taking the opposite tact. Our server had enticed us with the special, a tortellini dish that sounded like heaven, however, he soon returned to apologize that they had run out (mother and I were both set to order it :( ), fortunately there was plenty else on the menu to choose from. Mother and my wife ordered the ravioli with sweet potato and ham (scary when your mother and wife both order the same thing) and I ordered the chicken quarter wrapped in parma ham. My chicken was incredible. Literally cooked to perfection, stuffed with wild mushrooms and accompanied by asparagus and carrots. I am not a devotee of carrots in most capacities, but these babies were amazing! (My wife complained that I never eat carrots at home, and I replied that if she could replicate these little darlings I might start!) I was fortunate enough to sample the ravioli from her plate and it was extraordinary! I was skeptical about the sweet potato stuffing, but it combined with the light and smooth cream sauce to create a perfect taste sensation. It started out creamy and finished with a lightly sweet twist that definitely delighted the taste buds! Oh that one could order two entrees and not look like the town glutton!

We finished with a strawberry gelato and tiramisu. Both were absolutely wonderful. Wife and mother snagged most of the tiramisu, but that left the gelato up for grabs. I risked brain freeze just to secure the lion's share for myself! My wife also commented that their coffee was some of the finest she had tasted and went perfectly with the tiramisu.

So all in all, a very nice Primo experience! Big thanks to the whole staff for a wonderful dinner!

Ronnie-

I appreciate your comments regarding the coffee at Primo. It is a special blend that we produce for them exclusively and we had always glad that diners enjoy our product with or following dinner.

Many foodies fail to realize that we are the coffee provider for 29 of the top 30 tables in Louisville. I always read so much about the coffee that is found in our great independant coffee houses, so it's nice to hear some nice responses regarding our coffees also. Consumers Choice Coffee is a locally owned company that really stives to educate and provide great coffee for our customers. We are not some huge conglomerate that mass produces coffee, but rather we are as much of a hand crafted producer as some of the other micro-roasters that we have in Louisville.

Well enough for that rant and thanks again for the compliment.

my wife usually sugars up her coffee to ease the bitterness, but she was so impressed she left the sugar behind and let the tiramisu do the rest. :D

Great work guys!
