Bueno

by BrianW » Wed Apr 09, 2008 11:06 pm

"Bueno" my wife said as she walked in this evening. I was in the back putting decals on my B-58 Hustler model (1/48 scale) so I didn't hear her clearly at first, though the second time I knew she had stopped at the new Taco Bueno in Jeff for dinner tonight.

Mucho Nachos, soft tacos, chips and queso were the fare tonight. She says it's quite a bit tastier than the 'Bell', but having limited 'Bell' exposure I can only state that it was pretty tasty for fast food. I was surprised to see the salsas and quesos are in clear plastic tubs instead of tear-open packages, the queso had a decent taste to it that was improved by my dumping in a container of hot* salsa. Chips were fresh, beef was hot, good portions and fast service.

Jeff (particularly the northeast side) has been getting (finally!) some new places to eat (Our Best is well under construction just around the corner from Taco Bueno). Just wish the BW3 was going here instead of Clarksville, but oh well.

TB is clearly fast food 'mexican' but I thought it was really decent, so hope to go back. They are open til 1:00 am weeknights I noticed also.

Regards,
Brian

*hot salsa as they define it, though my wife thought it had kick, to me it was no more than a medium. Perhaps all the voodoo chicken and firecracker chicken have left me numb to how 'hot' things are.

BW3 is going (along with other stuff) into the open area between Coyle and GFS/Panera. Article in the Evening Snooze last week mentioned it with some other stores. Noticeably still lacking is any sort of decent bookstore. FWIW, the crappy Waldens in Greentree as well as another in a mall up in Columbus, IN are the only non-used bookstores south of Indy, sad but true (invoking Metallica).

BW3 is something my wife and I have hoped for for many years over here. Love the Mango Habanero... 'Wings To Go' is just not the same even though I enjoy some of their stuff.

You can't diss the Evening News/Tribune for any newsworthy story on the "SunnySide" ....

They often have the "scoop" on more of what is going on over there than any other media outlet...

Actually, that's happily not true. Destinations Booksellers, an independent local, has been around since 2004 and doing well at 604 East Spring Street in New Albany.

Jeff, thanks for posting that link. I was unaware of this store and will make a point of it to visit it sometime soon.

I went past the Jeff store around 1:00 pm today. The drive thru and parking lot was so full, I couldn't even get on the lot. Is this place that good or is just the novelty? I can't wait to try it, bur won't wait an hour for fast food.

Typical response from Jeff area people when a new place opens, they get slammed hard for a week or more (Chick Fil A was heavy for a month), heck when the Sonic on 10th opened a decade ago they had to get police traffic help for the first week. But not everything new gets slammed, usually has to be a name/chain. As for the food, well it was pretty good but again it is fast food.

I tried it for the first time today. I didn't think it was worth the extra cost to eat there as opposed to Taco Bell. Besides, I hate anyplace that adds speed bumps. I'll stay a Taco Bell fan, as its not fast food (anyone who has used a Taco Bell drive thru knows its not fast).

We tried Taco Bueno for the first time over the weekend and thought that it was WAY better than taco hell. We had an assortment of items to get the feel for the place. The thing I noticed right off was the beef. It didn't have that odd orange colored grease dripping off of it! The beans and guac were very good. Yes, it is still a fast food place, but it was really good and we will go back. Perfect late night snack attack!
